Through coordinated referrals, 46 residents from Maheshtala, Budge Budge and Satgachia underwent free surgeries at Drishti Eye Care Centre. An additional 20 citizens from Falta and Maheshtala received treatment at Renuka Eye Institute, and 10 from Metiabruz successfully completed their procedures at Vivekananda Mission Ashram Netra Niramay Niketan. As long as I have the opportunity to serve, initiatives like this will continue, with focus, compassion and accountability.

I am especially inspired by the journey of Rustam Sheikh, who attended one of our health camps and was swiftly diagnosed as needing retinal surgery. Thanks to the expertise at Renuka Eye Institute, the operation was successfully completed, allowing him to see the world with renewed clarity and confidence. Alongside him, 15 other patients underwent free cataract surgeries, reclaiming not just their sight, but their dignity and independence. With continued post-operative care, they will soon regain full vision, and with it, the assurance that compassionate public service can truly transform lives. As the years advance, diminishing vision often erodes more than sight. It unsettles confidence, autonomy, and the ease with which everyday life is navigated. Tasks once performed effortlessly begin to require assistance, and with that dependence comes a subtle loss of dignity. Through Sebaashray 2, nineteen residents of Maheshtala and one from Budge Budge were identified, referred, and successfully underwent free cataract surgeries at Drishti Eye Care Centre. For each of them, the procedure marked the restoration of independence and renewed self-assurance. When an individual walks out of a hospital able to see clearly once more, it signifies far more than improved vision. It represents reclaimed agency, restored confidence, and the dignity of living without apprehension. That is the true purpose of this endeavour to ensure that care reaches those who need it most, and that no one’s world remains dimmed for want of support.

It moves me deeply to share that, from our health camps in Diamond Harbour, we have referred 11 citizens to the Renuka Eye Institute, where they underwent life-changing cataract surgeries. Emerging from the shadows of age's veil, they now embrace the world with renewed clarity, their eyes alight with boundless gratitude and the exhilaration of rebirth. Each story is a poignant reminder of the power of compassion to restore not just sight, but hope itself. Our pledge to good health for every soul remains etched in stone, an unbreakable vow to uplift, to heal, and to unite.
