A mobile robot that can fly! 🐝 DoubleBee is a new robot developed at Nanyang Technological University Singapore that can both fly and move on the ground, using two tilting propellers and two wheels. In the air, it flies efficiently like a bicopter, and on the ground, it balances like a two-wheeled robot, saving energy. On the ground, the propellers help control its balance while the wheels handle movement, making control easier. The robot is built with off-the-shelf parts and tested in real-world experiments to prove its efficiency and performance. We place micro-nozzle belts around tri-lobed ring. These tiny jets push air to generate lift, lateral motion, and rotational control for the craft. This scene is a proof-of-concept rigid body dynamics demo rather than a full CFD. We juste wanted to see if the shape can fly. But everything is still grounded in the language of flight...control systems, aerodynamics, physics and mathematics.

We just completed a successful flight for our tech demonstrator, Lat One v0.2. Lat Aerospace is building ultra-short takeoff and landing aircraft using blown wing technology. Think fixed-wing performance with near-helicopter access. A couple of months ago, v0.1 achieved uSTOL but crashed shortly after. That was expected. v0.2 was about completing the full mission, and it did. The blown wing concept worked in reality. Closed-loop control got validated. We'd predicted a cruise speed of 30-32 m/s and cruised comfortably at 33. No thermal issues despite a burning afternoon. The quick-detach wings held through aggressive turns. Was in the air for over 6 minutes. Smooth touchdown, and ready to fly again. But the thing that makes me the happiest isn't any of that. It's that our CFD studies, aerodynamic models, SIL simulations, and flight logs all match, almost perfectly. That's what real engineering looks like. I am so proud of our team. If I’m looking for a no BS common sense economic assessment, I can ALWAYS depend on Richard Wolff to deliver. Here he is in a clip from the Robinson’s podcast. There’s a good reason Musk could not deliver cuts to deliver REAL savings and create efficiency in the operation of the federal government. It was already largely operating efficiently. I accept you can always improve efficiency at the margins, but the slash and burn approach Musk took was NEVER about efficiency, it was all about cost savings dressed up as efficiency. The truth is, cost savings simply deliver less efficient services and ultimately increase the cost of delivering them while people reliant on them suffer. 🎥 TikTok -
