Last week Sheriff Hanson shared an opportunity for those who believe that we can’t remove tent encampments until we provide “housing first”, to volunteer to shelter tent dwellers in their own homes. 👎Not surprisingly, we received no volunteers. 👉 Instead we need to focus on real solutions to help this vulnerable part of our community: ✅Ban tent encampments and support our local shelters, no one gets better in a tent encampment ✅Increase our mental health infrastructure in the community ✅Support creating a specifically designated problem solving court to help these vulnerable people

The discussion around unauthorized tent encampments on city property continues. Sheriff Hanson believes these encampments are unsafe, not only for those living in them, but also for neighbors and businesses nearby. He believes local shelters remain the best pathway to safety, stability, mental health care, and sobriety. But some disagree, saying no one should be required to leave an encampment until they are provided permanent housing. Some survivors have reported living in their cars with their companion animals rather than leaving them behind. The Pet and Women Safety Act—was introduced so that domestic violence shelters could get the funding needed to allow victims to bring their pets with them to a shelter. And of course, the Republicans now want to do away with it.

🦮: the real reason I wanted to volunteer at a dog shelter is that there are so many dogs and cats in the world without a family or home. So if you find out through this video and if you’re ready to adopt a pet then please look into it. Besides the shelter I visited today, there are a lot of shelters across Korea so if you are interested please look into it. But you have to be ready to have a pet! Seriously! As a person who has a dog too, I want you to adopt when you are fully prepared!

As we continue our mission to curtail illegal street racing, Sheriff Hanson wants to provide members of the street racing community with a safe and legal way to test their driving skills and car's abilities in a controlled environment. DCSO is proud to partner with I-29 Speedway to provide $4,000 worth of gift cards to street racers to avoid traffic fatality tragedies. Dog owners in Jamaica now have access to a dedicated outdoor space for their pets with the opening of what is being positioned as the island’s first dog park, in Portmore. People who do this to animals should be treated the same! This infuriates me. My son worked at a Veterinary clinic while in college and he said these types of stories are way too common. He would come home some days completely disgusted with how many people treat their pets. Please don’t get a pet unless you have the time, the patience and the love to care for your pets! They are NOT disposable property. They actually love you.

Sheriff Waters was picking up an order at customer service when a store employee flagged him down. A man was attempting to leave the store with roughly $500 in merchandise. Sheriff Waters and a retired robbery detective chased the man. When the Sheriff tried to grab him by his sweatshirt, the man twisted away. The Sheriff pursued him to the edge of the parking lot, where he took him to the ground. The man struggled to get away and resisted, but with the help of the retired detective, they were able to get him into handcuffs as shoppers cheered them on. District 2 Patrol officers responded quickly and took over the investigation. The suspect has been identified as Raymond Pena, Jr. of Jacksonville (40). He is charged with theft and resisting. He also had two active warrants for theft. “Just because I was elected sheriff doesn’t mean I’m no longer a policeman,” said Sheriff Waters, who recently cited a teenager for littering. The Sheriff and detective were not injured in the scuffle. Sheriff Waters says he will always do what he can to protect the city.
