The federal government has already dropped into Black neighborhoods across this country with Black Hawk helicopters — and this man is suggesting bringing that to Baton Rouge. It doesn’t matter what he says in a press release now — he already told the people in power exactly what he meant. The TRIVE Tax election is November 15th, and early voting starts November 1st. Platinum recording artist Toosii is now calling Baton Rouge home, and today, he was recognized by Mayor-President Sid Edwards during a council meeting. The rapper recently enrolled at LSU, where he plans to join the Tigers football team this fall. The taxpayers who live in North Baton Rouge deserve the same level of investment as places like Central, Zachary, and midtown Baton Rouge. But too often, the story told about North Baton Rouge is different. Local media shapes perception—and perception impacts investment. The way reporters cover North versus other parts of Baton Rouge does real harm to our progress. At the same time, a lack of serious coordination from elected officials—on both sides—continues to hold this community back. And we have to be honest: continuing to elect people who aren’t aggressive on the issues that impact our quality of life only deepens the problem. Let’s also not ignore reality. Central is about 70% white. North Baton Rouge is about 85% Black. That contrast matters in how resources flow and how priorities are set. And to be clear—I named those specific communities because the data backs it up. Higher incomes, lower crime, and higher homeownership rates all support sustained retail and economic development. That doesn’t mean North Baton Rouge can’t. It means we haven’t made the investments necessary for it to. Improving the quality of life in North Baton Rouge doesn’t just benefit one part of the parish—it makes all of East Baton Rouge stronger. Share if you care 🦾

It came from the creation of St. George — a majority white city that took millions from Baton Rouge’s budget. Now the mayor wants to patch that hole by taking from the Library, Council on Aging, and Mosquito Abatement instead of addressing the root cause. A group of 5-10 white men, organized and fundraised with 800 people, to mobilize a vote of 17,421 people to breakaway and create a new city in my home town. People often ask me why I’m so direct about race. It’s in my face everyday how clear some in our city think about Black people and leadership. Baton Rouge is only on its 2nd Black mayor in its 200 year history. So historic neglect by previous leaders created a tale of two cities. I’ve been saying it for over a decade. Now it’s here. One day these videos I make will start getting you to ask why aren’t you doing more? These white men all over 50 just organized an effort that will impact us for the next 200 years. And if more people had showed up, if more people had organized, we wouldn’t be here. To my folks in Atlanta. Take notice. Buckhead and what they attempted to do a few years ago, trust they are taking note. I hope you are too. There are people in this country who will do everything in their power not to be under Black leadership. Let’s be clear, what’s wrong with America wasn’t created by Black people. What’s wrong in Louisiana is inequity that breeds all the social ills including crime. I want to be very clear, they drew the line in the sand when they created a new city. So I intend to be lending my voice to make sure we protect every investment for the citizens of Baton Rouge. We’ve built the South Side, and they packed up their toys. Now, it’s time for Baton Rouge to do what is in the best interest of Baton Rouge. This is and has always been a war for resources for them, we need to do whatever is in our power to protect our resources as a city. Spent part of Friday showing folks from the other side of town ways we can directly improve the quality of life for tax payers in North Baton Rouge. This park is a 200 acre asset, but it has a bridge down and tires in the park. This isn’t a new problem. The bridge has been down for over a decade. BREC hasn’t made it a priority but we are spending $50 - $80 million on the LSU Lakes, this trail is less than a mile from Southern University. We can’t continue to invest in one area of town and let the other side sit in decay. Sid Edwards Mayor-President said he wanted people to see the things I showed him. Time will tell if the improvements happen. I’ve been fighting for North Baton Rouge for a decade. If we don’t speak up for our communities others will define the narrative and we the people end up on the short end of the stick. Speak the truth even when it’s uncomfortable. Doing my part and then some, always. This is real life Civics for the People. Share if you care 🦾

On the tour of North Baton Rouge this week, we stopped in Ghost Town to see a house redevelopment project being led by Taneshia Nash Laird.flowers. A few years ago, Taneshia called me about the challenges she was facing trying to acquire a house across the street from her grandmother. I told her she needed to take her issue directly to Mayor Broome because many of the people she was dealing with simply didn’t have the authority to help. She got the meeting, and the result was her being able to acquire the property. I wanted to highlight Taneshia’s project because it shows what’s possible when government works with people instead of creating obstacles. It also serves as an example for this administration of how cutting red tape can help move communities forward. Last year, Taneshia called me again after some kids in her neighborhood got into trouble for jumping a fence to swim in a BREC pool. I reached out to people whose organizations receive funding to serve that community. One response I got was, “You expect me to knock on their door?” My answer was simple: yes. Those young people needed resources, guidance, and engagement—not arrests. It’s important people know that community members were actively trying to help those kids before things escalated. A tour with me is never a fluff session. I’m not under contract with the Mayor’s Office or anyone else to do this. I agreed to do this tour because I’ve spent more than a decade pushing for investment in North Baton Rouge. No matter who occupies City Hall, I’m going to advocate for taxpayers in North Baton Rouge to receive the investment and opportunities we deserve. The question for Mayor Edwards is whether his administration can execute and improve the quality of life in the neighborhoods we toured. Time will tell. I show up because I care about my people and my community in every season. This is what consistency looks like. In the second Blackest state in America—with 900,000 registered Black voters—we have the numbers to run the table: governor, secretary of state, attorney general. That’s not just about power—it’s about priorities. Louisiana’s $35 billion budget reflects our values, and right now, it’s failing our people. We just beat four constitutional amendments in New Orleans and killed a half-billion-dollar DA tax in Baton Rouge. That shows what’s possible when we move together. But rejecting bad policy isn’t enough. We need to vote for something. Invest in Black businesses. Demand a strategy rooted in our communities. If Project 2025 is the plan, Louisiana is the factory. Let’s shut it down. This can’t be about personality. It has to be about policy. What are we for?

Central City News is a Republican ran news paper in Baton Rouge and they are saying the quiet part out loud. They believe they can elect a white Republican as mayor because the Black voter turnout is so low. They are looking at the same data I shared last week. I’ve been telling you the numbers because the power is there for us to make the difference. I believe you seeing this is important. It shows you the thinking of people who are voting Republican in this community think about you not voting. They see it as an opportunity. If voting didn’t matter, why are they breaking records to show up? The person in the mayors office determines what policing in your city looks like, they determine the budget priorities of the city, they set the agenda for where things are going. Everything we don’t have, is because we aren’t engaging at the numbers we need to. You can’t change a city, with only 30% of the majority population showing up to vote. Baton Rouge can be so much better, we have to show up for better to happen. Take the 5 minutes to listen and then take 10 more to text your people and encourage them to go vote tomorrow. We can prove them wrong. Louisiana is not a red state, it’s an under funded, low voter participation state. I’ve tried to mind my business, but when Black peoples are being terrorized in my city, that’s my business. Tonight I went before the city council here in Baton Rouge to express my grievances against the government. Not everybody like when you speak the truth plainly, but I have learned that the truth stands against opinions and lies. So tell it. If what happened in the Brave Cave in Baton Rouge had happened to white women and men people would be in jail already. I have put a demand on the leaders I’ve gone out and asked people to support on this very platform. So I won’t be a hypocrite, I will challenge them the same way I did their predecessor when injustice was done to Black people. Advocacy is about consistency. It’s about moving the conversation even if it makes everyone uncomfortable. Too many of us care more about decorum than we do injustice. I have never and will never cease to speak truth to power. I’m going to always rise to speak for my people, especially when the leaders we’ve elected have been so silent. Arrest the cops, that’s what justice looks like. #WorkToDo #KeepPushing #RisingAlways

East Baton Rouge has 129,000 registered Black voters, but only 9,000 have voted so far. That’s not enough to ensure our communities have the power to influence decisions that impact our lives. East Baton Rouge has 129,000 registered Black voters, but only 9,000 have voted so far. That’s not enough to ensure our communities have the power to influence decisions that impact our lives. Early voting ends Saturday, and the time to act is now. Vote for @sharonwestonbroome for Mayor and @eugene_collins12 for City Council. The system counts on us staying home. Prove them wrong. Show up. As a Black man working every day to build a New Black South, I understand why the people of Memphis felt slighted by recent comments from athletes. What we’re seeing in Memphis isn’t unique. It’s the same reality in Baton Rouge, New Orleans, Atlanta, Jackson, Houston—and places folks don’t always name like Montgomery, St. Louis, Shreveport, and many more. Too often, majority-Black cities in the South are being undermined by Republican leadership at the state level. That’s not opinion—that’s pattern. And if you’re not willing to invest in the Deep South, it doesn’t help to discourage others from investing in our communities either. That needs to be said plainly. Entertainers and athletes have the power to shift conversations in ways local leaders often can’t. With that comes responsibility. My hope is that moments like this don’t divide us—but bring us to more tables, with more clarity, to fight for the progress our people deserve. Accountability is not an attack. If you’re from the south and you agree, comment your city. Share if you care 🦾

6,452 people have voted early so far in East Baton Rouge for Mayor Sid Edwards’ Thrive Tax — up 2,100 since Saturday. By race: 3,800 White • 2,449 Black • 203 other By party: 3,336 Democrats • 2,042 Republicans • 1,074 No Party Black voters are 45% of the parish, but only 38% of early turnout. If we want a say in how our tax dollars are spent, it’s time to turn the numbers up. This tax takes money from the Council on Aging, libraries, and mosquito abatement and moves it to the city’s general fund. I’m voting NO — we deserve a better plan than this low-key hostage deal. Let’s not forget — we don’t know if any of this money could end up supporting St. George, the same folks who caused this mess with their bigotry disguised as “good schools.” Now they want to keep sending their kids to our best schools while claiming they needed their own city. I didn’t think I’d have to say this, but here we are. I care that my Mayor is Black. We live in a time when our history is literally being erased from the books, yet some of us still act like race doesn’t matter. Let’s stop fooling ourselves. Is everybody racist? No. But those who aren’t prove it through their actions and their votes. They are attempting to understand where I’m coming from—they don’t know, but they’re willing to listen. Here’s what you need to know: Mayor Broome has given more contracts to Black businesses than any other mayor in the 200-year history of this city. And trust me, I’m not one for blind loyalty—I’ve challenged the mayor before. But in this race, nobody is offering a better vision or results for Baton Rouge than her. For me, it’s personal. My child deserves to grow up with the pride of seeing a mayor who looks like her. A mayor who comes from the same side of town she does. That kind of representation changes how our kids see themselves—it creates a future they can believe in. Let’s remember: Baton Rouge has had 64 mayors. Only 2 of them have been Black. Knowing our history gives us the perspective to understand why this moment matters so much. To young Black people in this city: this is our time. Our time to stand in our power and move this city’s leadership forward. I’m committed to holding Mayor Broome accountable, making sure she delivers for our community. But let me be clear: a man who skipped voting in 25 elections until his name was on the ballot will never get my vote. #KeepOurMayorBlack Because we deserve leadership that knows our history and fights for our future.

This is the right man to put as the President of Football operations for the Falcons This shit means something to Matt Ryan man. The speech he gave to the Falcons 2 years ago was sincere, fiery, and passionate. You feel the pain he has in his voice that he’s not able to go out there and do it himself anymore. He knows what it takes. What kind of guys he needs in that locker room. He doesn’t just think about the football operations he also thinks about the fans the city and what it means to be a Falcon. I’m so damn ready for what’s to come man.
