Here's an update on the downing of a U.S. Apache helicopter over the Strait of Hormuz: Iran used a drone to bring it down, most likely in a kamikaze-style attack in which the drone flew directly into the helicopter. The drone in question is widely believed to be a Shahed-136. Although relatively large, the Shahed-136 has a small radar cross-section, making it difficult to detect. It likely approached at high speed and very low altitude, catching the helicopter crew by surprise.
