Well, as reported earlier this month, that extension was killing federally protected fish. But according to new reporting from KOMO News, Sound Transit knew way back in December 2025 that the extension was electrocuting fish and did nothing about it. "The transit agency said it only learned of the dead fish in August. Alex Quibell, an electrician who worked on the Crosslake Connection, said photos of their carcasses were shown to members of the Sound Transit team in December, but the warnings went nowhere." Divers wet back months later and noticed the problem got worse. There were dead fish in PILES. "We knew about it, it was brought up to Sound Transit, and it was just dead silence." "We brought this up, there are fish dying, there are piles of dead fish on the ground." Why did the warnings go nowhere? Could it be that Dow's bonus and raise were riding on opening the line? Did Sound Transit sweep the problem under the rug to meet their deadline? Keep in mind, protecting fish in Washington state is serious (and expensive) business.
