Russia’s United Engine Corporation says the domestically produced PD-8 engine has successfully passed icing tests during Superjet flights in Arkhangelsk. But certification is only part of the challenge. Scaling production will be critical, Russia would likely need to produce at least 100 of these planes annually just to begin replacing an ageing fleet still heavily reliant on Boeing and Airbus aircraft.
