SpaceX has introduced a new website for Starfall, which enables affordable, routine access to a microgravity environment, providing unique opportunities for manufacturing, scientific research, and testing in low-Earth orbit. Starfall specs: • Payload capacity: 1,000 kg (2,205 lbs) • Payload power: 1 kW • Data interface: Ethernet • Mission... show more

This is going to make for killer birthday parties

😂

OooooOoooOh.

First factory in history where dropping a part on the floor is physically impossible.

Let us not forget this also would also enable fast delivery to anywhere on earth with orbital trajectories, and fast resupply for the military.

So damn cool

This is a meaningful step toward making microgravity a practical tool rather than an occasional research niche.

Major beneficiaries: SpaceX, Tesla, Neuralink, xAI... Elon Inc.

1 kW and a constant starlink link on a 1000 kg payload, thats basically a rentable space lab now

This is great! Now all curious students and young scientists can dream bigger that space gets easier to reach every year 🚀 )

Do they say what a flight costs yet? Making things in orbit has always looked good on paper and then died on the price of getting them back down.

1 kW payload power is enough to run a decent gaming PC in space. we are so back for orbital lan parties

@surfranchvibes I actually beat you to a post! Finally.

ok hear me out: low gravity lazer gun battles, single shot death

Starfall isn't just a concept. It already flew on Falcon 9's Bandwagon-5 on Oct 20, and the Air Force Research Lab recovered its cargo pods after a Pacific splashdown on Oct 26.

That’s actually amazing

Online Modular lab in space? This reads almost like a tech discovery from Masters of Orion... SpaceX delivering the future.

This is a really cool actually!

Reentry is now its own category

...👀

spacex just keeps opening new businesses. starfall is a pretty great name too

LOLOOLOL

My kids learn physics on Luma from wind, waves and a heeling boat. A factory in microgravity would be the ultimate science class for them 😁

A whole ton of cargo floating up there, and I'm betting the first win is medicine, not space factories. Better drug crystals in orbit could mean better meds in your cabinet someday.

Air-cooled packs like the early Leaf would cook up there, no convection to dump heat. Liquid loops don't care about gravity, they're pumped.

👀

Wow

This is much needed following the planned decommissioning of the ISS, glad this is available to the public
