That's one of the most convoluted but cool ways to go about it. lel Looks pretty nice.

This is a nonlinear murder mystery game in which Excalibur is the murder weapon. Wishlist here if you're interested!

I don't want to sound mad, but the last example look like this meme to me.

It's very cool that you can do that on modern CPU's. You can stack thousands of sprites and it will not affect the FPS. Old school game development was NOT like this in any way. Everything involved exploiting memory trickery.

most beautifully animated tutorial for no reason. respect.

and some still think doing pixel art is only justified as a way of making a cheap game

Is the layer stacking handled in-engine or in an animation program like Aseprite then exported as an image sequence?

In-engine o/

how to make 3d take 2d add dimension

Everything I see about this game looks so meticulously crafted, genuinely one of the best art directions in a modern pixel art game I've seen.

this shit is so fucked up. I love it

Always enjoy expanding those neural clusters perceiving different techniques.

A classic technique

This is awesome! But also, isnt it more practical to just render a 3D obj at that point?

did a sprite stack game once โ I inverted the draw order + set to a transparent black to do dynamic shadows, with a customizable len/dir. and then added a spring to the offset, so that objects could apply a nice lil bouncy spring effect on impact ๐

Very cool! ๐ฅ One thing thoโyou really wanna make every layer the exact same size (full canvas). That bell example at the end looks like each layer is cropped to its tightest bounding box, which saves a bit of space but forces you to store extra offset/anchor coords to line everything back up. Pain in the ass later. Full-size layers = zero offsets needed, perfect alignment every time. Way cleaner. ๐ But of course you can trade memory space for code/design complexity and vice versa depending on what's more important to optimize.

The song sounds familiar, is it from your game?

Yes, unreleased for now but made by Argonaught (Simeon Neese) ๐

pass the ost name

Not released yet but it was made by Argonaught (Simeon Neese) ๐

I think my mind broke in real time as that bell formed

That's pretty neat! ๐ฎ

This would be very useful, imma go try this right away!! (Your posts are very beautiful and inspiring, can't wait to play the game! >:)โค๏ธโ๐ฅ๐ฅ)

Is that how the gba used 3d even when it wasn't supposed to?

@sventuras1 dinguerie (je partage ce genre de tips)

Can you stop being awesome for like, five seconds, I canโt get any while your pixel art aura farms

i need tutorial for the tutorial

Teach me master

Calls the video 101 Immediately goes from drawing squares to WITCHCRAFT

You make that look so easy

i feel like there was an easier way to do that but ok...

@koifshbish

This is so cool.

Wow...

This is probably the most beautiful pixel art game i've seen so far
