During this taxi test, the aircraft is fully controlled from the ground control station. The test verifies the correct integration and performance of the braking system, steering function, navigation sensors, and commands from the control station itself. Why is this key? It confirms the seamless interaction between hardware, software, and vehicle dynamics. It also validates the aircraft's ability to maneuver safely on the ground before progressing to high-speed taxi trials and the subsequent flight test campaign. Unlike isolated component checks, this was the real deal: all systems integrated and tested under simulated launch conditions. Because launch is no gentle ride. Everything must endure intense vibrations and still perform flawlessly. The result? Electronic connections remained strong, the systems (including antennas, telemetry, flight computer, navigation systems) stayed up and running, and we obtained valuable data to further refine and improve. We are back at it with forward module testing, gearing up for New Glenn’s second flight. Part of this testing campaign is to activate the hydrogen peroxide system that fuels our Reaction Control System, or RCS. The GS1 RCS provides 20,000 lbf thrust in any direction, allowing the first stage to reorient itself in space before re-entry and to precisely target Jacklyn in high winds during landing. To give you an idea, a single F-18 Super Hornet F414 engine provides a similar amount of thrust at 22,000 lbf, so you can see how powerful this system is. The RCS performed nominally during our NG-1 flight and successfully reoriented GS1 to within 0.5 deg of our target attitude during exo-atmospheric flight.
