Stephen Colbert, a professed Catholic, says he believes that when we die, "there is some continuance of some kind. But it’s like a dispersion of the self into some other greater being. And I don’t have any other feelings beyond that.” This sounds more like the Gnostic concept of... show more

There's a special category for liberal Catholics, and that category is "not Catholic".

When I have questions about my own Christianity, I almost always turn to Stephen Colbert.

So he’s really a Hindu. Got it.

Stephen Colbert got his degree in theology by listening to Pete Buttigieg.

This is why sola scriptura is vastly superior to one’s own opinion.

Hey...Stephen.. Remember when you recited the Apostles' creed...I believe in ... the resurrection of the body...and life everlasting. Then you said Amen.

He's a Cafeteria Catholic, he goes down the line picking and choosing what he likes and passes up the rest. Seems there are alot of those Catholics now a days.

This nonsense goes against Catholic doctrine. He is simply not Catholic.

His show has died and will live on dispersed on YouTube.

Colbert is a Cino. No Catholic behaves the way he does. Biden, Pelosi, Kaine, etc. are the same way. Show me a right-wing Catholic who insults half of our country every time they speak? You can't

He may have been raised catholic, but he isn't.

Jesus Himself declares in Matthew Chapter 7:22-23,

Both of these commentators are Catholic. Stephen claims to teach faith formation at church. Jim Gaffigan says his wife is a Catholic jihadist. "What happens when we die?" Just some light, late-night comedy.

Teilhardian Omega Point, not Gnostic Pleuroma. Colbert’s close confidant is Fr James Martin, a Jesuit Priest and admirer of the Jesuit Pierre Tielhard de Chardin. Some will still call this Gnostic, but these people don’t know their ass from their elbow.

Stephen Colbert is such a woke Catholic, he will not allow himself to believe in Heaven! Colbert is not a Catholic or even a Christian, he is an atheist tying to let us know its ok not to believe in the the teachings of hi religion. You can't be both a Catholic and an aethiest.

He’s not Catholic he’s anathema, one can only be Catholic if they hold to everything the church teaches

Did anyone actually think he was a Catholic?

The only Christian response to Colbert professing this confused self-absorbed philosophy is to pray for his soul.

The blind leading the blind.

Full story

There's a reason why that is.

@Sensus_Fidelium Colbert pretended to be Catholic when he was doing a Bill O’Reilly parody show 25 years ago, and he forgot to drop the charade.

Stephen Colbert is a devout Catholic. The faith story he keeps returning to begins on a winter morning in Chicago. Walking down the street, a Gideon volunteer handed him a pocket New Testament. Colbert opened it to the index — under “Anxiety,” it pointed him to Matthew 5, the Sermon on the Mount. The verse that struck him was Jesus asking who among the worried can add a single hour to his life by worrying — the same passage where Jesus tells anxious people to consider the lilies of the field. Something cracked open. He has called it a mystical return, an unbidden recognition that the words had been waiting for him longer than he had been gone. He walked into the next chapter of his life as a practicing Catholic again, and he never left. The faith he came back to is built around a crucifix. Colbert has spoken often about why he prefers the bloodied figure to the polished empty beam, and he is unapologetic about it. A crucifix keeps Christ’s body on the wood — the version Colbert needs. It is a reminder that the cross comes before the resurrection. He looks to it for what he calls solidarity: the assurance that a God who hung on a cross is not embarrassed by the wreckage in our lives. The crucifix taught him to read human pain as the exact place where God chooses to be most present.

To be fair, catholics don't actually know if they are going to heaven or not.

It's nothing new, when unbelievers create their own quazi religion and call it Catholicism or Christianity when it is not even close. We see it with rainbows also.

That is far closer to vague spiritual monism than historic Christianity. Scripture does not teach that we are "dispersed" into some greater impersonal being after death. Human beings remain personal, conscious, morally accountable, and either in the presence of Christ or under judgment. Jesus did not speak of the afterlife as the loss of self, but as resurrection, eternal life, fellowship with God, and the redeemed dwelling with Him forever. Christianity is not absorption into the divine. It is reconciliation to the living God through Jesus Christ.

Not necessarily surprising. Most professing Christians—if the statistics below are reasonably accurate—lack a biblical worldview and an understanding of core scriptural content.

As long as there is no judgment, he's good.

I wonder if Jesus had the same thoughts on the cross.......

Just like always, he is uneducated and too lazy to seek truth in something truly important. No one has paid him to have an opinion on this so it's not important enough to deeply consider. Might as well be flippant and BS my way through with a inoffensive answer.

All I care about is the border, Intersectionality in our education system, and the economy. I don’t give a shit about Christian theology.

Sola Scriptura > RCC dogma False claims by RCC Communion elements become the actual body and blood of Christ❌ Prayer to the saints❌ Grace can be merited❌ Mary delivers souls from death Purgatory ❌ Tradition equal to scripture ❌ Penance is necessary for salvation❌ RCC is necessary for salvation ❌ Pope is the head of the church ❌

Can someone direct Stephen Colbert to the Word of God? so that whoever believes will in Him have eternal life. — John 3:15 For this is the will of My Father, that everyone who sees the Son and believes in Him will have eternal life, and I Myself will raise him up on the last day.” — John 6:40 but these have been written so that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God; and that believing you may have life in His name. — John 20:31

I'd say the first mistake is thinking he's a Roman Catholic just because he says so. A good rule to live by is: if someone in entertainment says a thing, the opposite is what corresponds to reality.

This man may have been raised RC but he has since lost his Christianity. This is a great example of the concept that we CONSTANTLY need to repent and be redeemed over and over. Just because you were once SAVED doesn’t mean that you’re forever SAVED. We are all sinners and need redemption every day!
