Suddenly a wild Mycoplasma appears! I'm getting ready for #WWDC23. This is going to be insane in the Apple VR headset. So excited! 😆 It's a 250 million atom bacterial cell model rendered in real-time on an iPad (or iPhone). #gamedev #scicomm #vr

Can you imagine this in Biology class?

This is still the old renderer. I'm working on a new technique, currently 5.3ms at 2400x2400 resolution, aiming for 4.5ms. I think temporal upscaling and foveated rendering may let us hit 90 fps on the headset at ~4k x 2 resolution (depending on the GPU they put in it).

The whole-cell model is by the incredible Maritan et al. Project page: GitHub data files:

That's Omi, my cat.

At first I thought a Katamari prince came there and had rolled up all the flintstone vitamins...

I love katamari and this idea. Backup plan is now a katamari game.

oh my God Tim this is awesome!

Thanks Martina. Your model is super awesome!

is that model available to download?

Yup, check out this link. The files are in .cif format (organized as tables of atom positions for each protein and instance transforms for where to spawn the proteins)

Inspiring!

Aww, thanks!
