Utah was his worst game as far as accuracy. So many misses in the 4th quarter, but he did make some awesome throws to partially offset that. And yes I think the gap in talent between the Big 12/ACC and B10/SEC has grown every year since the transfer portal, especially in the trenches. Watch an ACC edge rusher and a Mountain West edge b2b, they're facing essentially the same caliber of OL

Ferris State HC Tony Annese - Mesh (QB/Ball Carrier) & Motion Fundamentals QB Mesh Fundamentals - Regardless of play, the first thing the QB needs to do to make sure he has a good mesh is stab the ball back off his hip towards the ball carrier as far as he can. - His arms should be straightened with his eyes at the HOK. - The ball should move with the back through his track. - If the ball is pulled the decision must be made by the time the ball gets to the QB's front hip. Ball Carrier Mesh Fundamentals - The potential ball carrier is the one that is responsible for his track. He needs to make sure his is at the mesh point that the QB is creating. - He must maintain a pocket that is firm enough to secure the ball but loose enough that the QB can pull the ball if the read is a pull read. - Do not deviate from the track until you fully clear the mesh. - If you do not get the ball then track away from the HOK and make him chase you. Motion Fundamentals - All of our motions start up at FULL SPEED! It is incredibly important to make every motion at full speed so the QB has a consistent timing. - The QB is responsible for sending the motion back on every play except for the triple option. - This allows us to control each motion easier. - Every Jet motion should be timed as if the jet back was getting the ball regardless of play. - The motion back will change his depth based on play. - This allows us to use motion with a multitude of schemes. - The motion stops at different spots on different plays and each perimeter player must understand where he should stop for each play.

Back in September, I tweeted out asking if Baylor QB Sawyer Robertson was the most slept on QB in this draft class and with a thinned out crop, he's probably going to be a Top 5 QB in this draft class for me when my big board drops. 6’4, 225 lbs., an arm that oozes talent displaying good touch on deep balls and with the ability to layer the ball over second level defenders. He can drive the ball real well with great velocity, make throws off platform and really, can threaten all three levels. I think he doesn’t get enough credit for his pocket presence and overall feel for it plus he’s mobile enough to create out of structure. Robertson does need to be more consistent with his accuracy and I think that starts with him needing to be coached up mechanically because you see the baseball background impact his lower and upper body mechanics at times on tape. But if you’re talking about taking a Day 3 flier on a QB who you can develop and isn’t expected to start immediately, Robertson fits the bill as one of a few intriguing options in this draft. #PhinsUp

Chicago Bears: The Deep Ball Façade As a Chicago Bears truther, I gotta keep it 💯 There are many Bears fans posting “Amazing” out of the pocket deep ball highlights of Caleb Williams Obviously, we don’t see those kinds of throws everyday. It’s insane!! But deep ball playmaking isn’t new to Chicago. Nor is it the focal point of Ben Johnson’s offense. If the Bears are going to be great, we have to become more efficient from the pocket. Pass percentage must go up, time in pocket must come down. Living outside the pocket will hinder our ability to be efficient and to win a Super Bowl #1 Deep Ball was always there Justin Fields in 2023 had one of the most efficient deep balls in the league. Not only that, the majority of his deep balls came from the pocket which is what you want from your QB. As good as the Bears were as a whole last year, the deep ball was far more efficient in 2023. But living on the deep ball and living out the pocket comes with limitations. We have to focus on the fundamentals #2 Ben Johnson is the catalyst Similar to 2023, Bears offense in 2024 had explosive plays followed by inconsistent offense and inept situational football by the head coach Poor offensive line, poor offensive scheme, and inept head coach were the core issues. Ryan Poles thought QB was the main issue and then 2024 happened. We learned quick that it takes more than a talented QB to win football games. Ben Johnson has alleviated all of those concerns. He has made Bears offensive line the focal point! His scheme has been top of the league since he became OC in Detroit. And his situational football awareness far superior than Eberflus. Bears fans must recognize that Ben Johnson is the catalyst of the Bears offensive turnaround, and team success. Now give him what he needs! He wants 3 tight ends? Give it to him He wants more Luther Burden? Give it to him He wants more efficiency out of his QB? Let’s make that the focal point.. #3 Ben Johnson needs a point guard at QB Efficiency in the pocket, time to throw, and passing EPA are far more important to Ben Johnson’s offense than out of pocket deep balls. We need Caleb to be that killer still, but it’s the fundamentals that will allow Bears to take the next step. This offense doesn’t need a Michael Jordan at QB. Ben Johnson would much rather have an Isiah Thomas at QB because this offense has enough Bad Boys to get the job done. Feed the WRs! Get the ball out of your hands quicker! Allow deep ball to be the counter punch of the offense. #4 It’s all there.. The pre-snap awareness, post snap awareness, efficiency from pocket, and pass velocity all scream franchise QB. When you look at Caleb Williams in the pocket on short to intermediate passes, it looks effortless. The ball leaves his hand lightning quick, it’s placed where it’s supposed to be, and WR is able to make a play after the catch. We have to see more of this and it starts now. CW has to trust Ben Johnson’s offense and his WRs more. Conclusion: If we wanted a QB to scramble and throw deep balls, Justin Fields would still be a Chicago Bear What makes Caleb unique, is that he can be a hunter down the field but also has the upside to be a Drew Brees type of QB in the pocket. I rather see more clips of Caleb playing in rhythm and in the pocket , than deep bombs out the pocket. There will be struggles, but that’s ok. I much rather see our QB struggle making the right throws in OTAs than masking it with his gift as an out the pocket thrower.

Just a two-star recruit out of Miami, FL, Fernando Mendoza was initially slated to go Yale before switching late to Cal. And after an 8-game starting season in 2023, he emerged as a bonafide NFL QB prospect during the 2024 season. And he enters the Big Ten (now at Indiana Football) and the 2025 #NFLDraft process as a QB Draft fans need to get to know: I’d bet on his continued ascent up boards over the next 10 months. Mendoza’s film last year has a LOT to be excited about, from his pocket navigation, deep ball placement, and high release point allowing him to pinpoint at all three levels with control. But what really jumps out in studying Mendoza: his toughness. He faced ample pressure last year and was as good as any quarterback with pressure in his face and finishing through contact as a passer. On plays where he had less than 2.5 seconds to throw, Mendoza was top-5 in the FBS last year in Completion % (min 250 attempts), behind players like Cam Ward and Shedeur Sanders. As you can see in the plays below, Mendoza has the size/arm talent to complete passes with rushers muddying the pocket and/or hitting him, and the rare placement and control to complete those passes at a high level He’s one of just seven FBS returning starters who faced pressure on 170+ snaps. Here is a throwback to Gruden’s QB camp with Patrick Mahomes. Please understand I’m a hardcore Bears fan that has witnessed terrible QB play for over 30 years. Caleb Williams is my QB, and I want nothing but success from his career. I will say outright, Caleb Williams has the most arm talent of any Bears QB ever. He has many traits similar to elite QBs, and that includes Patrick Mahomes. But I see Mahomes as a completely different college prospect based a few unique traits. With that being said, Caleb is still a generational prospect with traits that can be developed into a top 5 franchise QB. He is capable of winning superbowls, but he is still raw in a couple of essential areas. I see him as a mashup of Murray, Rodgers, Hurts, and Mahomes. How he develops under center will determine career path. He holds the ball longer than Mahomes but is adept in playing out of structure. I believe good coaching will lead to him being deadly in structure. I seriously hope our coaches recognize those differences and develop him to be his own player. He may not want to be a rushing QB in the league, but I believe his mobility will be a huge asset in the pros as it is for mobile QBs. Why not use it as he develops to play in structure. Strengths 🔘 Possesses a quick release with elite ball placement to all three levels of the field 🔘 High level throw maker capable of fitting balls into any window. Sometimes appears as though he is throwing balls through defenders 🔘 Elite processer with a high level understanding of leverage and the ability to speed up his delivery and accurately place balls under pressure 🔘 Strong and powerful runner who never gives up on a play. No screen play call (or any play call) is dead when you have a quarterback who can change his arm slot like Jaxson Dart. Some teams have it, but the Giants have not had it for a VERY long time. Both Jones & Eli even struggled when forced to change arm slots/angles like this.

Jaxson Dart has an absolute ROCKET for a right arm. Dart reportedly has the “prettiest deep ball” of any QB currently on the Giants roster. Emeka Egbuka with an amazing route to get wide open. You can see him running towards the EZ alongside the numbers, but the throw takes him in the direction of the back pylon. So Emeka, at full speed, has to flip his hips and square up to the ball in mid-air. Should have been caught, but curious if Baker thought EE would feather his route a bit wider at the top or was it just a ball that sailed on him a bit?

Brady has already shown he is ready for adoption. He's been perfect in foster. Walking, being in the car, with people, with dogs, with cats. He's got a fantastic personality. He is nearly 2 years old. He enjoys a play and a zoom but is also happy to chill when needed. He's very food led and is already learning his boundaries. He loves to follow his foster around and see what he's doing. Brady can definitely live with other dogs but would be very happy as the only dog in an active household too. We've heard this repeated so many times in the media so now any time he gets sacked once, everyone thinks it was 5 sacks for -50 yards." Taylen Green is someone I’ve talked about all season on Phinside The NFL as an option for the Miami Dolphins outside of day one of the 2026 NFL Draft if they want to bet on traits and development. Now with Jon-Eric Sullivan and Jeff Hafley in the building, who both come from a storied franchise of drafting QBs with traits that need proper development and grooming, you have to wonder if they’d be more willing to take a shot on someone like Taylen Green than others. Green is as a fun as he is downright frustrating at times to watch. The traits are undeniable - excellent athlete, prototypical size, absolute cannon for an arm and is downright dangerous when he creates with his legs. Where he needs a ton of work is from the pocket. He needs to become a quicker processor, the accuracy and placement needs to become much more consistent, his decision making does need improvement too, basically consistency will be a big thing for a staff to get out of Green at the next level. That said, he easily has one of the highest ceilings in this QB class and I expect him to rise up boards after his combine showing. #PhinsUp

Patrick Mahomes was not a finished NFL prototype in high school. He was a three-sport athlete at Whitehouse High School in Texas, and you can see the transfer on tape. Baseball shows up in the arm angles, velocity, and release freedom. Basketball shows up in the spatial awareness, body control, and ability to create when the play leaves structure. The production was real. Over 4,600 passing yards, 50 touchdowns, and nearly 1,000 rushing yards as a senior. But the more important part is the trait profile. Watch the deep ball placement off schedule. He is not just throwing it far. He is escaping pressure, changing platforms, and still giving the receiver a playable ball downfield. That still shows up on Sunday afternoons. When the pocket breaks, Mahomes does not lose access to the field. He extends, resets the angle, and delivers with placement. You also see the situational awareness. He draws the defense offsides, recognizes the free play, and immediately attacks vertically. That is command. The lesson is not that every quarterback should play like Mahomes. The lesson is that transferable traits matter. Multi-sport movement. Arm access. Spatial awareness. Off-schedule accuracy. Situational command. Talent was visible early, but the separator was how many ways he could solve the play.
