You can also try, "Ask me a question that you think somebody else might have about this." This a) allows students who fully understand to still engage with the conversation, and b) allows shy/insecure students with questions to have a little buffer

YES YES YES

Howie should be the fifth face on Mt. Rushmore. He is a national treasure.

😭

This is great. My hack when soliciting questions has always been to take a long sip of my coffee. But I can see how it might take a minute or two. With music production there seems to be a strong stigma around appearing ignorant, so I'm constantly looking for ways to encourage Qs

This is such a good idea! I've never thought about doing this before, thank you Howie. I remember learning about the importance of wait time when studying to be a teacher, still find it awkward but I always endeavour to withstand the silence to give them that time, and it works!

What a great strategy. Thank you from a 5th grade math teacher fan in memphis.

Sadly, second graders don't know what questions are, no matter how often I teach them. I try this, I get subjected to two very long stories about their lives.

Successful people ask questions.

Wish more people would adopt this type of strategy. Thanks for bringing this to a wide audience
