Nick Caley mentioned running the ball more multiple times today: “I gotta do a better job being disciplined to the run game.. in hindsight probably should’ve stuck more runs in there.” It’s clear what they want to do. Problem is we aren’t good enough to do it vs any run d that’s remotely average to below average. Seattle’s rush D is elite. Going to more quick game was the right move and what worked. We are going to have to be able to do that in games where we face stout run defenses. Hearing him be mad at himself for doing the right thing is concerning.

I’ve watched this play 20 times. I don’t have any idea how it can be the “wrong read.” No one else in the pattern. Run action fake away from the throw. Both WRs looking to block. I think it was great design & a good play call. Just an F- on personnel & execution. Wrong read?

Richard Sherman is spitting 100 percent facts about the 49ers offensive line issues: “The interior offensive line was the issue late in the game. I knew that would be the Achilles heel for this team. It’s not just on the pass protection standpoint. It’s ridiculous on plays that are setup successfully. You got guys in space and all you have to do is block your guy. Block your guy, get in his way and let Christian McCaffrey do his work. And you can’t even do that and that’s where it starts to become devastating to this offense because you can draw up the perfect play, but if you have guys who are incompetent, unable to get the job done, unable to block linebackers, then you can’t run these plays. The center should be able to at least get in Lavonte David’s way. He shouldn’t be able to shock, shed, and tackle Christian McCaffrey right where they were. Pre-Snap: Alert Okie (6-step speed out) Progression 1 - Rail 2 - Low Mesh 3 - OTB 4 - High Mesh Rules & Landmarks Rail – Aim heels of #1 → bottom numbers. Low Mesh – Align +4–5 from OT. Run at 4 yards. Set the mesh and stay on the move. High Mesh – Align +4 from OT. Run at 5 yards. Set depth and read grass under LBs. OTB – Push to 10 yards over the ball. Do not shut it down early. OL Protection – 5-Man Scat RB releases on Rail and must run off the coverage if the ball isn’t thrown immediately. Creates traffic vs man. Horizontal stretch vs zone. The 49ers biggest issue on Sunday vs. Buccaneers was not the defense. It was not Mac Jones. It was the offensive line. The bad news for the 49ers? It's not going to get any better because the Niners don't have the personnel to improve it and George Kittle can only do so much once he returns. The OL play is killing the Niners offense. It's the reason they can't run the ball, why they're bad in the red zone and why the pass game is inconsistent.

We ran the ball pretty good yesterday but there was more hay to be had. Gainwell has been a godsend for this team and offense. All he does is produce, but he missed one here on the first run play of the game. This is an example of how an OL can block something up as intended, and it still not get the yardage it should, due to timing and patience. It got better as the game went on. Importance of sticking with the run…especially in December/January. #HereWeGo
