The Lagos State Government has reaffirmed its unwavering commitment to environmental enforcement with the arrest of Mr. Ogunbadejo Olawale, a resident of No 25, Ajiboye Street, Alapere, Ketu, for illegal waste dumping. The arrest was effected by a joint enforcement operation carried out by the operatives of the Lagos... Waste Management Authority (LAWMA) and the Lagos State Environmental Sanitation Corps (KAI), following credible surveillance and tip-offs from members of the community. The offender was caught red-handed disposing refuse indiscriminately in public, thereby undermining the government’s efforts toward achieving a cleaner and more hygienic Lagos. His arrest is a clear demonstration of the state’s resolve to enforce environmental laws and restore sanity to public spaces. This waste was traced to Dowen College in Lekki Phase 1. Such disregard for environmental laws is unacceptable. Corps Marshall of the Lagos State Environmental Sanitation Corps have been directed to proceed with sealing the premises. We will not hesitate to take firm action against any institution or organisation that violates our waste management regulations. While we continue to arrest and prosecute defaulters in accordance with the law, it is important to emphasise that lasting change goes beyond enforcement. Doing the right thing should not depend on the presence of enforcement officers. Environmental responsibility must become a personal and collective culture. Taking ownership of our environment means using available public toilets, discouraging open defecation, keeping public spaces clean, and holding one another accountable. A cleaner Lagos is not built only through enforcement, but through everyday decisions made by residents who understand that public hygiene protects everyone. When we act responsibly, even in the absence of enforcement teams, we move closer to building a cleaner, healthier, and more dignified Lagos for all. #CleanerLagos #GreaterLagos

Yesterday, while passing through Fadeyi Road, I saw someone dumping refuse illegally and had to stop to document it. I also raised concerns about the growing heap of waste at the location. Today, I passed by again and was pleased to see LAWMA already clearing the site. Kudos to Tokunbo Wahab, LAWMA and the Lagos environmental team for the swift response. Let’s all do our part. As part of our sustained efforts to eliminate open defecation and improve public sanitation across Lagos State, we currently have 1,710 functioning public toilets strategically located across the state for residents and visitors. However, government cannot do this alone. We are encouraging businesses such as filling stations, banks, eateries, and other public-facing facilities to make their restrooms accessible to the public where possible. This collaborative approach will significantly complement government efforts and expand access to sanitation facilities across the state. At the same time, we continue to enforce environmental sanitation laws. Individuals caught engaging in open defecation are being arrested and prosecuted in accordance with the law. These measures are necessary to protect public health, preserve dignity, and maintain a cleaner environment for all. Access to sanitation is a shared responsibility. A total of 115 street beggars were arrested today across various locations in the State during the ongoing enforcement operations. In addition, 26 members of the notorious ‘Omotaku’ group who were apprehended from different parts of Lagos within the last 24 hours, were arraigned before the Magistrate Court in Oshodi. They pleaded guilty to the charges brought against them and were sentenced to three (3) months’ imprisonment in accordance with the law. This action reinforces the State Government’s firm stance against activities that threaten public safety, order, and the effective use of public spaces. Enforcement efforts will continue across the State to ensure compliance with existing laws and to maintain a safe and orderly environment for all Lagosians. #ZeroToleranceLagos

At about 4:00am, 23-year-old Buhari Mohammed was arrested at Durosinmi-Etti in Lekki for vandalising the wire mesh at a canal. In Iyana Ipaja, LAWMA Enforcement apprehended 32-year-old Tunde Ola for dumping refuse on the road median. Also, Mr. Victor Nwachukwu (37) and Mr. Chibuike Eze (24) were arrested by LERA security and handed over to KAI personnel for dumping refuse directly into a drainage channel. These acts are serious environmental offences. HE WAS TRACKED AND APPREHENDED IN HIS EPE HIDEOUT On 19/09/2025 at about 1400hrs, operatives of the Lagos State Police On 19/09/2025 at about 1400hrs, operatives of the Lagos State Police Command successfully tracked, trailed and arrested a notorious armed robber, hired assassin, and murderer, later identified as John Samuel ‘m’, 28 years old, from Akwa Ibom State, in his hideout at Epe. The suspect, who was recently released from Prison, on 18/08/2025 fired and wounded a businessman Gbenga Obama and robbed him of an expensive gold necklace and other valuables in broad daylight at Gbajobi Street, Allen Avenue, Ikeja. John Samuel, an ex-convict, is vicious and notorious for armed robbery, assassination, and murder of some of his victims. He was released recently after serving a six-year jail term for capital offence of armed robbery. After his release from prison, he returned to crime and criminality with even more viciousness. He is notorious for shooting at victims before dispossessing them of their valuables. CCTV footage of the 18/08/2025 incident obtained, clearly captured the suspect when he fired at the victim with English pistol,before dispossessing him of his gold necklace jewelry while his accomplice waited on a motorcycle for their escape. The victim, who sustained serious gunshot wounds during the attack,has since been treated and discharged. The suspect, Samuel John confessed to selling the stolen jewelry for ₦4 million, far below its actual value. The Lagos State Police Command is currently intensifying efforts to arrest other members of his gang and bring them to justice. They will all be prosecuted on completion of investigation. VIDEO: 86 rooms where tenants paid N250,000 a year found under Lagos bridge Lagos State's Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, on Wednesday said the government discovered 86 partitioned rooms, sized 10x10 and 12x10, under the Dolphin Estate Bridge, Ikoyi, on Lagos Island. Tenants are said to be paying N250,000 per annum for the makeshift apartment under the bridge. Wahab shared this information via a post on on Wednesday, along with videos. He added that the enforcement team of Lagos State's Ministry of Environment and Water Resources had successfully removed all structures, including a container utilised for various illegal activities, from beneath the Dolphin Estate bridge. Sharing videos he wrote, "A total number of 86 rooms, partitioned into 10x10 and 12x10, and a container used for different illegal activities were discovered under the Dolphin Estate Bridge. "They have all been removed by the enforcement team of the Lagos State Ministry of the Environment and Water Resources" A Special Adviser to Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, Kunle Rotimi-Akodu, further confirmed the eviction of squatters from beneath the bridge towards Dolphin Estate in Ikoyi over illegal settlement and environmental violations. Rotimi-Akodu mentioned that 23 individuals were arrested during the eviction, which was carried out by officials of the Lagos State Environmental Sanitation Corps, popularly known as KAI on Tuesday. He wrote, "Squatters dwelling under the bridge leading from inward Dolphin Estate, Ikoyi were evicted today Tuesday, 30th of April, 2024 by officials of the Lagos State Environmental Sanitation Corps LAGESC (aka KAI). "These people created their illegal settlement under the bridge, thereby exposing the critical infrastructure to impending destruction. 23 persons have so far been arrested and MoE/KAI will continue to monitor the place. The law will take its course." He also confirmed that the bridge has hitherto housed 86 rooms, partitioned into 10x10 and 12x10 with squatters paying an average rent of N250,000 per annum. "Continuation of the removal of abode under Dolphin bridge. 11 more persons were arrested. It is important to note that wood materials were used to construct the shelters, some occupants used gas cylinders, and some had stored fuel for their generators, these are recipes for disaster," he added.
