The most interesting thing in tech: Everyone in Davos is talking about geopolitics and the growing antagonism between the US and Europe. But geopolitics are sometimes downstream of tech. And one thing that Europe could do is build its own open-source AI models. Eric Schmidt explains why that matters and how it could be done. #WEF26 #WEF2026

One of the AI industry’s original mistakes was making tech that mimics humans. And I fear they’re going down a similar path by trying to make it conscious. I don’t think the models are conscious in any way and I don't think most people want them to be. As Azeem Azhar says, people want a tool, not a digital border collie. Azeem is brilliant on all things AI. Watch my full conversation with him here:

You can just make iPhone widgets that do one thing. That's exactly what sam and I did for one year, and now doing for a new app we dropped called Lyrics. It's a "widget first" app that does just one thing — shows you lyrics from your favorite musician. The widget first approach actually makes things wayyy less complicated, and gives you the most valuable real estate on a person's phone — their home screen.

The most interesting thing in tech: Cloudflare has built a new tool that allows publishers to identify, track, and block any AI bots that are scraping their sites without permission. Here Gitesh Gohel and I explain the spreadsheet we've built to decide who to block --- and then we start blocking. It feels like an important moment where the balance of power is shifting back to creators and away from companies who have scraped with impunity and without any fair exchange of value.

I’m thrilled to announce The Most Interesting Thing in AI is back for another season. This moment in AI is the most exciting, as well as unsettling, that I’ve lived through. It has spurred lots of questions about where we are heading—and I’ve got an incredible list of guests to help me work through them. Episode one drops next Wednesday. We’ve officially made the switch to video; I hope you’ll subscribe and watch on YouTube: Produced by Atlantic Re:think, The Atlantic's creative marketing studio, in collaboration with PwC.

Elon Musk: "I'm very optimistic about the future. I think we're headed for a future of amazing abundance, which is very cool. And definitely, we are in the most interesting time in history. I don't think there's a more interesting time in history."

ELON MUSK: “When I wake up in the morning and think about what is inspiring because we need things in this world that are inspiring. Life cannot just be about solving one problem or after another. There have to be things that make you look forward to the future. And being a space-faring civilization I think is the most interesting thing we could possibly do for the future. It is making Star Trek real.

The Scotland we love is a nation of extraordinary resilience, one that can overcome each and every passing storm. In this new Parliament, we must work together - so we can deliver for the people who elected us here, and bring hope for the future.

I think it’s safe to say that 2025 was a very interesting year. And I think I see it very differently than most. You probably saw a lot of headlines about AI and tech stocks. While that was a big story, I don’t think it was the most important thing. The big story in the investment world was the depreciation of the value of fiat money and how that impacted the price of gold. That’s how 2025 looked through my eyes, at least. I’m curious to hear if you see things the same way.

.benahorowitz.eth explains why moats like code and UI may not work in the AI era: "For my entire career, the one thing that you knew about technology companies is you couldn't throw money at the problem." "With AI, that's really changed in that you can throw money at the problem because if you have enough GPUs and enough data, you can basically solve most problems right now." "The capital race becomes a real thing and you have to think through, okay, code is not really a moat the way it was in the past, and user interface isn't really a moat."

Elon Musk on SpaceX’s Ultimate Mission: “Making Star Trek Real” “Started off with a clear mission, which is to make life multi-planetary, to extend consciousness beyond Earth, to understand the universe. And you can only understand the universe if you go out there and you explore, and you see other planets and ultimately other star systems. And I think one of the most inspiring things that one could possibly imagine, one of the most inspiring futures one could imagine, is one where we’re out there among the stars, and perhaps meeting alien civilizations, or exploring the ruins of civilizations that lasted a million years, but died out 10 million years ago. I think that’s when I wake up in the morning and think about what is inspiring, because we need things in this world that are inspiring. Like life cannot just be about solving one problem or after another. There have to be things that make you look forward to the future. And being a space-faring civilization, I think is the most interesting thing we could possibly do for the future. It is making Star Trek real.”

something I’ve wanted for a while: an AI that isn’t just a text box so I built it lets you create a 3D AI character on-chain that lives in your browser it can talk, remember you, show emotions, and use different skills. you can even mint it onchain, so it actually belongs to you it gets its own identity, history, and reputation that no one can take away most AI today can disappear if the app shuts down this one is permanent and yours the future is AI you can see, interact with, and actually own
