The problem isn’t that we don’t know what works. It’s that too many programs still avoid it… This is Ajax training in the 90s. Drills into sprints. Bounding. Resisted runs. Stair jumps. Strength work. Agility. No gimmicks, they were training off principles that still hold

true today. There aren’t separate laws for soccer players. Speed, force output, and tendon stiffness all follow the same biomechanical and physiological truths. Regardless of your sport, The body adapts to load, intensity, and progression. If you want to move faster, you need

force. You need coordination. You need tendons that can tolerate, store, and reapply high forces efficiently. That doesn’t come from gimmicks or endless small sided games. Too much modern soccer preparation confuses specificity with effectiveness. Meanwhile, the core physical

qualities that underpin speed and resilience remain underdeveloped. If you want a complete system for developing real speed, Speed Kills breaks this down in detail. It’s an 80+ page deep dive into what actually creates speed, force production, sprint mechanics, stiffness,

coordination, and how to organize them inside a training week. No trends. Just principles applied correctly. And if your goal is to get stronger, more powerful, jump higher, and learn how to integrate short sprint and explosive work, Strength × Speed is built for that. An 8-

week program blending muscle, strength, jumps, and speed work in a simple, structured, effective way.

First thing first, if you wanna have a chance, stop calling it Soccer. It's Football

Soccer

Good luck playing soccer during the WC26. We will all be watching.

Same to you, mcnallyzzzzz

Heavy squats with good range of motion have always protected from injuries and increased athlete potential. But it is too cheap, too hard and does not sell anything nor shows you have discovered the wheel again.People like to be fooled and nowadays nobody studies history of sports

It’s not an either/or. Full ROM during GPP, move towards partial in SPP. Basic stuff. Captions provide context. Read before pretending you know.

I know you are the expert. You forget that while you are showing videos, some people was there training soccer players in the 80s, 90s in Portugal. A couple of things worked and others did not. And don't forget to tell people about motor learning and genetics too. Be nice.

Each post can’t cover every topic on earth. I’ve discussed motor learning, genetics, fiber types, etc.

Haven’t seen any soccer team in Europe do resisted sprinting apart from this clip, which amazes me. Soccer coaches have become obsessed with the idea that everything has to be ”sport specific”.

Depending on the population - the problem is that everything works and programs often have success in spite of programming.

Fitness training results.

Another classic I save in what I call my "Dunc" tank!

😂😂

Are footballers of the past fitter than those of today?

Still the best team I’ve seen in Europe over two Seasons I don’t care what anyone wants to say nobody was better than them between 94/96

Agility is the first skill you need in football, that all round robustness and it comes from frequent training and playing not al these data analysis things they incorporate into football . High football understanding of Biomechanics and well conditioned physical support systems

It’s football not soccer.

It’s actually both

No it’s football u kick with your feet

@RomanMyers14

Many baseball players smoked cigarettes between innings. We incorporating that 90’s workout as well? :)

Nicotine is a strong stimulant, many athletes use that or other drugs, so sure.

This is incredibly outdated. 25yrs ago, people abandoned this methodology and integrated physical work with the technical and tactical work, on the field, complemented with the gym. It's called tactical periodization. "A pianist doesn't improve by running around the piano."

😂🤣

Tous les exercises sur la vidéo existent encore aujourd’hui

Correct, all reasonable programs use them

the entire ajax series used to be telecast on national television in India about 25 years ago on loop

So why is Ajax so garbage now?

Soccer does not exist. It is football.

Your brain can’t handle two names?

My brain handles reality 😉

Apparently not 😉

Watching the average top tier team warm up before a match hurts my head and my heart. There is no wonder the players suffer so many hamstring and adductor issues when the quality of training is so poor.

I remember watching this video back in 2000, found it it in a video store, and payed the penalty because I never returned it

Talking about ball without mentioning any GOATS🤣 tells us how much we shouldn’t listen to your grade four essay on “exercising in sports”

@Ilalalmbyu_king Yet here you are 🙂

Fred is actually pointing to an important issue, but there are a few points I would like to add from my own perspective. While his argument contains some valid truths, it oversimplifies the matter. Football performance is not solely about strength, speed, and tendon qualities; perception, decision-making, and game-specific coordination are just as important. Small-sided games are not used only for conditioning, but to develop a player’s ability to act and respond at the right moment within the game. Physical qualities developed without context do not always transfer to match performance. The real problem is not specificity itself, but the poor balance between physical training and game-specific work. In football, the true need is not simply to be faster, but to be fast at the right moment. Moreover, unless human anatomy undergoes a fundamental evolutionary change, these physical demands cannot keep increasing indefinitely; the body has biological limits, and those limits will inevitably show themselves over time.

The first person in the video, Kanu

You saying soccer even means you know nothing.

You should cry about it and see if that helps

Horsepower. They do a horsepower test at a local high school. Or at least they did in the 90s. An NFL legend running back held the all time record. My brother was #2.

False.

😂

Ajax still does some of this with post-puberty boys. However they now use none of this with U13 and younger. Just FYI

>soccer Fuck you.

You going to cry?

any team today would destroy that ajax team

That destroyed R9 knees... just saying

Until doping is is allowed we are going to see many acl esploding

The most effective training for strength, endurance, and balance.

Don’t waste your time Fred! They’ve had this video since the mid 90’s and still don’t follow ❤️

@otm_enhancement 🤗🙌

Don’t show this to most American fans. They still think soccer is magic.
