Cited as a precursor to the gameplay of later titles such as Driver and Burnout.

Blackthorne (1994) for the SNES is a "cinematic platformer". Developed by Blizzard (then known as Silicon & Synapse), and published by Interplay, it's a "Prince of Persia with guns". The SNES version had some of its gore effects censored in comparison to the PC/DOS release. Re-released for the Switch, PS4, Windows, and Xbox One as part of the Blizzard Arcade Collection (2021).

Exerion for arcade (by Jaleco/1983) is a shoot 'em up with early pseudo-3D background effects. Also the ship doesn't stop instantly, it has some inertia. Ported to MSX, SG-1000 and Famicom, and received 2 sequels (Exerion II: Zorni for MSX and Exerizer for arcade).

Happy birthday, Bubble Bobble! It was released exactly 40 years ago today, on June 16, 1986. The arcade version was absolutely brilliant, being one of the first games to have a coop-multiplayer option. It was also one of the the most ported arcade games in history, with over 20 ports to home computers and consoles, including even the legendary TI-84 Plus (primarily a calculator). The port that got the highest praise and came closest to the original arcade experience was the C64 version. Excellent graphics, one of the most recognizable tunes , and great gameplay make Bubble Bobble a timeless classic. My brother and I played the crap out of this one back in the day, and we still load it up on my old C64 when he comes for a visit. It's like riding a bike, you never forget how to play Bubble Bobble.
