there is a game called "data center" on steam which let's you build and manage your own data center. this is lowkey genius, the best way to educate people on a new trait. hyperscalers should learn a thing or two from "edutainment".

which one?

first one. second is still in development afaik

heya @elonmusk wonder if you can make something happen so people learn practical skills about data centers? there's definitely a talent shortage in this industry, especially if we want to put data centers in space and on the moon in the next 5-10 years

Game looks super cool, I'd buy and play it right away. But come on, a datacenter management game that doesn't run on Linux? That's a small contradiction! If the devs see this, please add Linux support 🙏

Come home from work, sit down, crack open a drink, Play a game that makes you work. The work never stops 😂

finally a game i can get behind

how else will we learn about efficient network topology

Guys will get obsessed with and autistically figure out the solution tree and optimize and climb the leaderboard and maxx out for absolutely anything instead of just getting a job

if this interests you but you want more of a game around it, check this shit out:

thanks for taking the time out of your day to post the link for everyone very kind of you /s

very unrealistic demo ;)

Do they also simulate addiction to prescription medication?

How realistic is it?

it’s alright

damn your post doing numbers

Plot twist : you’re actually doing it IRL by playing this game and helping someone else do it by tricking u into thinking it’s a game

Cisco packet tracer has been around for literal years btw

Me playing Data Center online with the homies

the edutainment angle is the future. games teach systems thinking better than any whitepaper because you feel the consequences of bad decisions in real time. honestly i think this is where schooling is headed. vibe coding has made building a game almost as easy as writing a lesson plan, so the barrier to "turn this curriculum into an interactive sim" is basically gone now. the next generation is going to learn thermodynamics by blowing up a virtual reactor, not reading about it. we are sitting at the beginning of the biggest uplift in how humans actually absorb knowledge. what subject do you want to see gamified first at scale?

Bro this the nerds version of a farming simulator 😂 myself included

Kerbal space program for cs people

You want me to do this all day at work and then come home to the Circus and do it again? bet.

As someone who studied IT in college with the intent to work in a data center, this game will let me live out the fantasy of being employed in the field I spent 5 years studying. Definitely adding to my wishlist!

Or Just get a job

Does it also let you crash the consumer RAM retail pricing???

if you turn out to be good at this game rack servers with Railway

Please tell me there's water under the floor panels from the Lieberts.

heh the only way I can afford to touch hardware again

Applied Energistics 2 in modded Minecraft vibes frfr

Minecraft data centers. What’s next fortnight skins?

Actual data centers should have hot and cold sides for better air circulation. and one switch? gotta have the A&B switches for redundancy... this is a thermal money pit and network reliability nightmare and kids will never actually suffer those problems.

The one thing the game is missing is security coming in to check on you every 15 mins. And your escorts to the bathroom. Also the piece of paper you get so you can write your one outside contact ( your boss )

When I play real life to get away from real life.

My new autistic hyperfixation for the moment. Nice. End my 9-5 and then get to work on my data center 😂

Except u build a data centre for a purpose not for fun… they are dedicated to a purpose and depending on goals dictates the design… in general there are ideas that are universal to a point, when it comes down to where big blocks go “it depends”… Very different setup with a colo vs dedicated gpu training setup

@Angaisb_ we need to play this
