🚨 There were two particular points of interest here in this Tesla FSD clip: 1) Speed (69 or 70 MPH in a 55 MPH zone on Standard) 2) Left Lane Camping You'll see me take the two images in the quoted post in this clip, which is sped up 3x.

The only time I seem to be able to get FSD to get into the slow lane without any question is putting the car on Hurry when the fast lane is backed up Mostly because people who drive in the fast lane usually are not driving at fast lane speeds.

I take over and then press critical as it is unsafe driving and against law

Speed control modes are aggravating. If I can say “I’m cold” and my car bumps up the climate control; why can’t I say “Slow down” and trim a few mph off the target speed?

Yes. I have standard mode speed more than 10 mph all the time. I hate it. The only time it’s favorable is when it thinks the speed limit is 25 mph and it’s really 35.

If you are unhappy with your setting, CHANGE IT! Dont leave it at 20% over, set your own speed limit that the car can go over! Stop blaming the system that you set!

Why are you yelling

Camping left lane issue. More importantly - If another car approaches from the left lane coming up behind the car, will it go over appropriately to the right lane?

Use chill

Standard on surface streets is fine. Standard on the Highway is really Hurry. I feel like its been that way since v14.x

Any truth to this?

I always want folks to tell us specifically what model they drive because I am beginning to think FSD drives differently depending on the car. For example I have NEVER had standard go over 7 mph over the limit. Not even on the expressway. Not even on the highway where I WANT it to go faster. And on the surface streets I can’t even get it to go 5 mph over at times I want it to. Not in our Juniper Model Y Premium. (So I either press the accelerator or I switch to hurry)

Flowing with traffic at 70 in a 55 is fine, but riding the left lane while doing it is a bad habit. Real driving behavior means clearing the passing lane. Fix that, and the drive becomes completely seamless.

Yes standard. Mph over 5-10 max

needs speed cap until unsupervised is a thing

when you let the robots fuck your wife i mean drive your car you get what you get

So what you're saying is all the coast to coast FSD drivers saw this for long stretches, and said nothing about it. And likely looked the other way for all sorts of other "edge cases."

Very accusatory. Not at all what is being said. It’s very evident that FSD acts differently due to weather, regionality, traffic conditions, etc. It’s just like how I haven’t experienced great and consistent parking in PA, but people in CA don’t have an issue with it. I’m reporting what I personally felt with FSD in my car during my travels. I’ve had other lengthy drives where I didn’t feel or observe some of the things I felt yesterday. I did about 300 miles two weeks ago tomorrow, recorded and posted the entire thing. Never felt this despite being in Standard during that drive as well. In fact, I even included the fact that it has completed Coast to Coast drives in an article this morning.

Does left lane camping matter if there is no one behind you and you are passing everyone? Staying in the left lane is easier than constantly switching back and forth as long as you aren't holding up traffic behind you.

Absolutely! In PA the highway is stupidly set at 55 mph. Chill goes 57-59 - gonna get you killed in PA to Slow!. You switch to Standard and you are going 70. Hurry and mad max 80. There is no standard sweet spot!

I just scroll to chill to slow down then back to standard

Camping the left lane is an issue as you can be ticketed for that regardless of speed. Speeding, for me is less of an issue. It's my understanding that all modes monitor current road traffic and adjusts speed up or down accordingly within the limits of each mode. If the Modes were simply numbered 1 through 5 would you simply drop to 2 and be done with it? It seems that the term "Standard" is being given more scrutiny than necessary.

That seems high from what I have experienced but it is a moving target, it changes all the time. My real question is when you are experiencing this higher than normal speed, does It slow on chill or sloth? I have had times where it makes no difference at all.

Well, you have the option to set relative speed limits. Read the manual on the screen

Go ahead and check that second picture in the quoted post

Then slow it down, Karen.

You can set it on standard and dial the cruise speed up.

Yes. Standard typically goes up 15 mph beyond speed limit. Chill 2mph above limit. Makes no sense

I have driven tens of thousands of miles on the NY thruway with cruise control at 77-79. Speed "limit" is 65. Flown right by cops hundreds of times. Nothing. No problem. Never been pulled over for those speeds. Likely because they know: 65 MPH on major highways is ridiculous.

Regular state route or interstate?

This is U.S. Route 11

69 in a 55 with a +4 offset would bother me more than the lane choice. Standard is supposed to map to a conservative mental model. If the behavior says otherwise, that mismatch matters.
