If the wind is blowing, you can say it's powered by wind power, then the wind stops or the wind gets weaker. Something has to fill that gap in always be there. So when you add wind and solar onto a grid, you don't remove the need for coal plants, for nuclear plants, for natural gas plants, that work all the time. So to maintain two grids instead of one grid is always more expensive." Source: Fox News

Schatz: We don’t even have to talk about climate action. We can just say wind is cheap, solar is cheap. They’re stopping wind and solar because this guy has some very strange ideas about the energy mix. And it’s consistent with the rest of his political and economic philosophy — if there’s less of everything, it gives him more authority to dole out favors and have people come to him for indulgences from the king.

But it's going to be primarily solar and wind as the primary generators of energy. The second part is you need batteries to store the solar and wind energy, because the sun doesn't shine all the time, the wind doesn't blow all the time. So it's a lot of stationary battery packs. And then you need electric transport. So electric cars, electric planes, boats. And ultimately we can have a fully sustainable energy economy. The data is clear - there is no "global shift" Globally the world is using more coal, more gas, more oil and more nuclear. It’s also using more solar and more wind and more of everything else - but globally solar and wind are not REPLACING fossil fuels - they are merely ADDITIONAL. Further, Australia is the only nation in world attempting to replace its fossil fuels with prominently intermittent weather dependent sources of energy - solar and wind. It doesn’t work at night, or when it’s cloudy, or when there’s no wind. Also, all the solar panels and batteries are coming from China, and here in the US, taxpayers are subsidizing that!
