Organized by Paul McCartney, the show was put on in response to the 9/11 attacks as a benefit for the Robin Hood Relief Fund, and was broadcast live on VH1. This performance of "Hoochie Coochie Man" with Buddy Guy was included in the CD and DVD releases.

I'm playing GTA V on a PS3 and its been such a fun experience. I remember when was a kid and playing this for the first time, I didn't give a damn about how BAD the framerate was during driving. I was constantly in awe by how realistic this game looked back then that the framerate wasn't something that was going to stop me from enjoying it. Don't get me wrong, this game is running on a PS3 that has 256mb of RAM and 256mb of VRAM which is some black magic itself and the fact that Rockstar Games managed to have such a massive open world game with that much traffic and NPCs running in real-time is a feat on its own.

Who here is old enough to remember when Myst (1993) blew everyone away? It was a straight-up revolution! Well, that's how it felt like at the time. Developed by brothers Rand & Robyn Miller (Cyan), Myst had over 2,500 photorealistic pre-rendered images, 40 minutes of original ambient music, and 66 minutes of video on a single CD-ROM. Many say it helped kickstart the CD-ROM era (1993 was still heavily dominated by 3.5" disks), which was an expensive hardware luxury back then. It looked and sounded like nothing else. There was no combat. No death. And also no hand-holding. Just you, a mysterious island, books, levers, codes, and puzzles in beautifil, lonely worlds - you had to figure it out, the gameplay was open and non-linear. It felt like stepping into a painting, and you could argue it was one of the first games with true immersion (again, for its time - remember this was 1993). It sold over 6 million copies, and stayed the best-selling PC game for 9 (!) years until The Sims in 2002. It created a whole new audience and changed what people expected from PC gaming forever, the bar was raised to a whole new level. For the first time a game also had real appeal to the non-hardcore gamers. It pulled in more female players than any other game before. For its time it was pure magic.

Any fans of this masterpiece? One of the few games I managed to finish (in 2 player mode with my brother) without using unlimited lives: Silkworm It's a classic horizontally scrolling shoot 'em up developed and published by Tecmo for arcades in 1988. You control either a heli (player 1) or a jeep (player 2) as they blast through enemy territory. And "blast" in the very sense of the word - great sound effects, epic explosions, and non-stop action. The helicopter offers free movement in the air, while the jeep drives on the ground, can jump over obstacles like mines, and has a turret that rotates to shoot in a 180 degree angle. Originally an arcade game, it was later ported to home computers like the Amiga (as in the video) and consoles. To me still one of the best games ever for the Amiga, and still playing it these days when my brother comes for a visit.

Mel Brooks on one of his favourite scenes in "Robin Hood: Men in Tights" (1993): "Sometime in 1992, a talented young writer by the name of J. D. Shapiro came to me with a wonderful new take on the classic Robin Hood story. He was a pleasure to work with and in no time, we had a script worth making. I stole my Robin Hood once again from Rob Reiner, from whom I had earlier stolen Daphne Zuniga for 'Spaceballs' (1987). In Rob’s magical picture 'The Princess Bride' (1987), I found my perfect Robin Hood: Cary Elwes. He had the look, the voice, and the charm. I thought he could possibly be the next Errol Flynn! Cary was a delight to work with; we got along really well on the set and to this day we are still good friends. One scene from the movie I particularly love is the exchange between Cary and Mark Blankfield, who played Blinkin. Upon Robin’s return from the crusades, Blinkin catches him up on what's happened to his family during his absence." ("All About Me!", Mel Brooks, 2021)

Did you know Xenon was actually the very first game from the legendary Bitmap Brothers? This 1988 vertical shooter on the Commodore Amiga kicked off their iconic run with that signature metallic look: smooth scrolling, the awesome tank-to-fighter jet transformations, massive bosses, and pure high-energy action that defined early 16-bit greatness. Absolute classic that still holds up today! Did you know the digitized face that pops up saying "Level One" was Bitmap Brother Eric Matthews! Xenon was also the first Amiga game ever to crack the UK Top 40 software charts which was usually dominated by Commodore 64 and Spectrum games. The game is legendary but from memory after you blasted your way through the game, it just looped back to the start, (correct me if my memory is faulty) those sort of endings were a major disappointed especially when you have dedicated so many hours into the game! Why don't we have this level of NPC density in recent AAA Games? Assassins Creed: Unity was by no means perfect, you can clearly see some NPCs popping into the frame while you're playing and some others not load properly, but it came out in 2014! It was designed on previous-gen consoles that ran on a Hard Drive and it was a game that was so rushed, Ubisoft never bothered to give it the love that it deserved. If there's one thing that still fascinates me about this game even today is the sheer number of NPCs that are rendered into this open world, it simply feels alive. By 2025, you'd think that most AAA game studios would have already gotten over these issues like NPCs popping into the frame and we would have Open World games that feel more alive than ever before. Nope, instead of huge number of NPCs, modern gaming companies are more focused on bringing Ray Tracing features which I have nothing against if it wasn't for having a such a small number of NPCs. I'm not an expert to determine what the exact reason behind having so few NPCs really is but I honestly would love if Ubisoft gave another shot at this kind of tech. Thankfully one of the games that looks like it will have this huge number of NPCs is Grand Theft Auto VI, by the screenshots and Trailers alone, it reminded me of how alive Unity really felt and I can't wait until that game comes out.

How many people did it take to make the legendary 1991 cinematic masterpiece Another World? Basically, 1 person! Another World was made almost entirely by one single developer — Éric Chahi — on a stock Amiga 500. He coded the entire game in assembly, created his own polygon engine, drew all the art, and even built custom tools. Only the music was done by someone else. (Jean-François Freitas... so I am guessing 2 people all up LOL!) No dialogue. No text. Just pure visual storytelling with fluid rotoscoped polygon characters that still look incredible today. Who else was/is a fan of Another World?

The Atari 2600 launched in 1977, with the ageless classic Combat as one of its launch titles. It was based on Atari’s earlier arcade game Tank (released in 1974). In Combat, you controlled a tank, biplane, or jet and battled against another player. The gameplay was simple to grasp, yet the skill ceiling was surprisingly high. You had to carefully judge enemy movement, shot trajectories, and your own positioning to avoid getting hit. For a game that’s soon approaching 50 years old, it was remarkably advanced for its time. It remains one of the most iconic games of early gaming history. Younger generations will probably never come across it - and if they did, they’d likely laugh at its primitive graphics. But for those of us who grew up with it, Combat was one of the best two-player experiences of its era.

The Game Boy was launched in 1989, sold almost 120 million units, and was eventually discontinued in 2003 - an incredible lifespan for a handheld console, the longest ever, unless I am overlooking another? One of the games that was availabe with the launch was Super Mario Land, and it became one of its highest selling titles (18 million cartridges), being part of the early and massive success of the Game Boy. By the way, all this with a mere 8 KB of RAM. That's 1/8th of the good old C64. Super Mario Land was essentially a perfect game, getting the absolute maximum out of the Game Boy at the time. I remember that even my mother and sister playing it, while before that computers games were really not their thing at all.

Microsoft attempted to create its own version of Uncharted for the Xbox Black Tusk Studios, now known as The Coalition, was working on the game, which was dubbed Project Ranger, when the Xbox One was being built. The firm had been working on a Halo game for the Kinect when they were asked to create a game using elements of Uncharted. Project Ranger was supposed to combine the espionage aspects of Mission Impossible with the classic action gameplay of Naughty Dog. The team thought that the new IP will become the next big series for Xbox. The footage was revealed at an Xbox E3 demonstration in 2013, but it was not announced as a game yet. It turns out that Liam McIntyre, who currently voices Wolverine in Insomniac's Marvel's Wolverine game, played the role of Cole, the game's protagonist. Unfortunately, creative disputes arose between upper management and the team, and the project stopped. Later, Black Tusk Studios was approached to work on the next Gears of War with Rod Fergusson.
