This play happened a couple of years ago in a regional final matchup. Unique to say the least. A single up the middle to center field. One run scores. The center fielder charges and throws home. The second runner is coming in to score. The runner slides, the catcher swipes at his arm, was he safe or out? The issue here is the runner who scored before stays behind home plate and is waving for the next runner to get down. The home plate umpire bumps into him, trips, and falls down and doesn’t see the play. 🤯 You can defer to the field umpire but if he didn’t see it, what call can you make? 🤷‍♂️ Some said the runner should be out because the player who scored first interfered with the home plate umpire. I have never seen a play like this. What do you think? What’s the call? Safe or out?

Replay clearly shows the runner is out. The Cubs challenge the call and are confident it is going to be overturned. After replay, the runner is called safe! 🤯 How can the replay booth who has every angle in the book at their disposal (not that you needed more than one) botch this call after the umpire just botched it? Do people lose their jobs over this? Have you seen a more terrible call ever in the replay challenge era?

The Cardinals challenged the call but in looking over the replay you can see that Andy Pages never touched home plate. But, the challenge was to see if the catcher tagged him. The pitcher catches the ball near home, up the line a little bit and the runner bulldozes her over. But the little pitcher holds onto the ball. Runner is out! While the pitcher is down in pain, the following runner who reached third on the play decides she is going to try and score while the pitcher is hurt. But, the pitcher gets up and tags her out too! Call on the field is obstruction because her left foot was in the baseline. In my opinion, the obstruction rule is getting way out of hand and too nitpicky. The SS has to get the ball to make a play. Let them play! And let the runners be the D1 athletes that they are and figure it out.

This team was down by 7 runs in the last inning. They made a comeback and scored the winning run by this young man stealing home. 👏 This is why as a catcher, you never throw the ball back to the pitcher from your knees with runners on base. You always stand and take a look at the runner, ESPECIALLY with a runner on third and in this scenario, the game winning run. That’s poor coaching imho. It’s the little fundamentals that are coached in practice that add up to whether a team is prepared or not for the games. Where was the coach telling his catcher to keep an eye on the runner at third?

The first baseman fields it but the runner from first never leaves the bag to run to second base. The first baseman tags the runner on first while he is still on first base and then tags the base with his foot. Many said that since the runner at first never left the bag, he is not out. 🤔 While others said the runner at first is forced to run. Without looking the rule up, I would say that is a double play.
