That was pretty much the training stuff we got in the mid 70's. of Course, half our equipment was WWII surplus too, except for our Lincoln Arc welders (Lincoln AC 225 - K1170 Type) I think Lincoln Gave them away to Schools.

Never welded before, but now I'm an expert.

Welding videos are the best for engagement. So many experts to comment. Guaranteed lengthy discussions of why your video is wrong. 🤣🤡

How'd we do all this without H1Bs and infinity invaders?

I am curious to know how they filmed the welding sequence. There's no transition when the arc appear and the puddle is clearly visible. That's impressive.

Suspect after WW2. The exposure on film is better than 90% of YouTube videos

That wide of a bead, and 90deg fill, should probably be doing the loop back to make sure the weld is penetrating into the base and not just gap-filling.

These old videos are much better explained.

During WWII, workers learned flat welding through fast, hands-on training 🔥⚙️ They practiced on steel plates with strict technique drills—building steady hand control, clean bead lines, and consistent penetration—so factories could rapidly produce ships, tanks, and aircraft.

Bert could overhead in a tank top. Put it where you want it. Sparks on the floor, not on Bert.😉

Love this bit of history. I cut my teeth welding on Great Dane trailers with my late husband, but I’ve since fallen for the complexity of automotive work. There’s a unique intellectual challenge in car fabrication that makes the process feel like a high-stakes puzzle. 🛠️

Funny how they show a whip technique in the animation but not the irl video. I like to use a whip because it helps make sure the weld can fill in properly without overheating. You can actually see at the end of the video where it ends up concave because he didn't whip it.

I like it. We started everyone on a 6010. Nice and sticky. Once mastered a 7018 is a dream.

@votterbax @grok were "they" trying to dumb down Gen Z to the level of The Silent Generation? A generation easily influenced by things such as childish cartoons.
