My grandfather was a Seabee in Port Hueneme during WWII. He was a master welder and worked with the guys who started Miller welders. He taught them, thats how they learned. He taught underwater welding as well. He could weld metal to aluminum and magnesium.

Seems like they were effective…

I watched old videos like this in my old college welding class.

Welding is one of those things where you need a LOT of practice/hands on to get it down.
