This Jokic play is fantastic, but actually kinda basic footwork. He ends the dribble with both feet in the air, lands on a jump stop. He’s allowed to pivot, and he simply lifts one foot, plants it and jumps. He could’ve taken another step if he wanted. Perfectly legal!

Luka demonstrates what we've been trying to impress upon folks: that it's perfectly legal at ALL levels to lift the pivot foot in order to shoot it before it comes back down. And all he does is step on to the non pivot foot, it doesn't matter if there's 4 frames of video where both feet are off the floor in between steps. You can disagree because anecdotally you saw a ref make a terrible call once when you were a freshman in HS, but I can assure you, it's been legal for 100 years and I have all the proof you'd ever need

Randle w/ the good steal and in the open court, you could count 4 steps from the last dribble. But that's not how the rules work. We only count from when the dribble ends. It's still flaring until he puts both hands on the ball. Foot on floor does not count towards 2 legal steps

OK! Here's the best angle for the Grayson Allen gather & step thru. We're looking to see if he got the left foot down at same time/after he gathers with both hands. It's as close as humanly possible - hence, no way to detect with human eye in real time, benefit goes to the player. So next foot to touch becomes the pivot (in the NBA). Does he then move the right foot? YES - about 2.3 inches, which again, is difficult to detect in real time but it's there. Remember: refs need to be #certain on travel calls (unfair to use slow mo close up to judge but here we are). Without that slight move, perfectly legal move to lift the pivot foot in order to shoot or pass before it comes back down. 👌🏀

Wondering about the Harden double dribble call? He was certainly upset, but we can see that the ball does pause while still in his control... just before he then loses control and dribbles it again. He could've picked it up legally, just can't dribble again.
