KYC doesn’t just put your data at risk; it puts people at risk. Hackers recently demanded $20 million in Bitcoin from Coinbase, threatening to leak sensitive customer data. While no passwords or private keys were accessed, the attackers obtained full names, addresses, contact details, partial Social Security and bank account numbers, and identity documents. This is the kind of data that can be weaponised for identity theft, fraud, or worse. This is exactly the kind of risk I raised on the compliance panel at the Financial Times Digital Assets Summit last week. While KYC and compliance frameworks are presented as security features, they often do the opposite. They create massive, centralised honeypots of personal data that can and do get breached, sold, or exploited. We’ve seen what can happen when that data gets into the wrong hands. Earlier this year, David Balland, the co-founder of Ledger, was kidnapped along with his wife. His captors cut off one of his fingers and sent it to a business associate to demand crypto ransom. He was rescued by French special forces, but the message was clear: real-world consequences are now linked to digital identity exposure. We need better solutions that don’t force users to sacrifice privacy and safety for access. Compliance shouldn’t come at the cost of security.

🐾❤️It's Moon's final day with us. Tonight he goes back to the Service Dog program where he'll have many other adventures. Today he's working on staying in place while the human leaves him and goes and opens the door. This will help him learn to be calm and not try to go exploring when a door opens, and that when he's in place, he can move around or change positions, but can't leave the mat. He makes mistakes because he's learning, but with a few more repetitions, he'll understand. We didn't teach him a whole bunch of new skills while he was here, but what we've taught him is his marker sounds (clicks, yes and good) and his release word so he understands when he's done the thing he was supposed to, when he should keep doing it, and when he's free to go. This is the foundation that will make learning other skills easy. We've also helped him learn to settle calmly when asked and play when appropriate, and we've introduced him to lots of sites and sounds. He's a delightful pup. We're taking a short break from puppies to get stuff caught up around the house, get some appointments done and other human business. But I'm sure we'll have more puppy chaos in the near future. Hell yes!! Jhared Hack just won his first start on the India Pro Tour with a final round 59* to win by 5. Jhared has become a good friend, we helped raise money for him a few times. Truly one of the nicest people in golf. Won the 2007 Western Am, beat Rickie and DJ in match play. Turned pro at 18. Now 20 years into his pro career he is still grinding. Years of driver yips. It got so bad his friends would try to convince him to not play in Vegas money games, they would feel guilty taking his money. He refused. Found his way out of them. Battled back. A ton of mini-tour players have been broke, but no one as many times as Jhared. And no one plays better when he's broke. Has won mini-tour events multiple times when his cards were maxed and it was win or be done. Has played most every tour in the world. DP, PGA, KFT, Latin, Canada, Morocco, China, and now India. After he missed at 2nd stage here he told Mark Baldwin he was going to play in India. We thought he was crazy (we still think he's crazy) . Yes. Flipperhead slid into Kate Peter's texts. Well, actually he called Kate first. Little Dick Miller obtained Kate's number somehow, but when he called and she answered, he immediately hung up. Flip suffers from stage fright. 😢 But Little Dick works up the courage to get his words out via text. He immediately offers "I have a story for you", and follows that up with "sorry if I invaded your privacy" (which is ironic, because he intentionally called someone's parent's home multiple times in the middle of the night like a couple weeks before this 😬).
