Starting January 1st of this year, I promised myself I would start a new hobby. I’ve seen a lot of women talk on their love for Pilates on social media and I thought to myself, well.. maybe I should try 🤷🏼‍♀️ I’ve tried my best to commit to at least one class a week since- give or take some travel and it’s been the best for my recovery, fixing some imbalances, and improving my flexibility. In my opinion- weight lifting and Pilates = the best of both 🌎🧘🏼‍♀️ Here are some facts about Pilates that I’ve grown to learn myself! -Targets Deep Core Muscles Pilates focuses on deep stabilizing muscles — like the transverse abdominis and pelvic floor which support our spine, posture, and overall strength. These are the muscles that wrap around our torso like a corset! -Improves Core Stability, Not Just Strength Unlike sit ups that only work surface muscles, Pilates builds a stable core — teaching our muscles to stay engaged and support movements during everyday life and workouts (like weight training, walking, running). -Supports Spinal Alignment and Posture By strengthening the muscles around our spine and pelvis, Pilates improves posture and reduces back pain, which often stems from a weak or imbalanced core. I always thought my core was strong and doing Pilates consistently has helped me strengthen muscles I didn’t even know were there! Many of us women struggle with lower back pain and Pilates could help fix this issue 😊

Great routine for people who sit at desks. 5 minutes to feel stronger & pain free. Cat Cows increases the flexibility of the neck, shoulders and spine while stretching the muscles of the hips, back, abdomen and chest. Bird Dogs promote proper posture, improves stability, relieves low back pain and encourages a neutral spine while strengthening your core, hips and back. The McGill Crunch activates your core while keeping your lower back in a natural arched position. This minimizes stress on the spine while increasing endurance in your ab muscles and can relieve low back pain. Side planks work the obliques, which are one of the most underrated muscles in your body. They also strengthening your glutes, hips, and shoulders. Glute bridge holds work your glutes, hamstrings and lower back without putting pressure on your spine. When doing the core exercises make sure to BRACE your stomach as if Mike Tyson were to punch you in the stomach. This activates your core. When doing the full body or glute exercises make sure to squeeze your glutes as if you're trying to crush a quarter in your butthole. Do 6 reps of each exercise with slow and controlled movements while mentally activating your muscles. Try it out between desk sessions & let me know how it went.

The Barbell Ab Rollout is my favorite abdominal exercise for several reasons. * Comprehensive Core Training: Unlike some other exercises that only target specific abdominal muscles, the barbell ab rollout is a comprehensive exercise that engages the entire core. It targets not only the rectus abdominis (the “six-pack” muscle) but also the internal and external obliques, the transverse abdominis, and even the lower back muscles. * Customizable Intensity: You can easily adjust the difficulty of the exercise to match your fitness level. If you’re a beginner, you can start by rolling out a short distance. As you become stronger and more comfortable with the movement, you can increase the distance to make the exercise more challenging. Notice that I rollout so far that I touch the ground with my chest! * Requires Minimal Equipment: All you need is a barbell (or ab-wheel) and some space. * Provides a Full Body Workout: Even though it’s primarily an abdominal exercise, the ab rollout engages many other muscle groups as well. Yoga is my ‘go-to’… at home or on a vacation or back from a vacation 😅🙏 So, today’s routine included the Virabhadrasana and Skandasana, which when done together is a great combination exercise. It is beneficial for strengthening the thigh and core muscles. It also improves balance, increases hip & pelvic flexibility, and gives a deep stretch to the groin, hamstrings, & Adductor muscles. It’s also a great exercise that increases one’s flexibility for more challenging asanas.
