This video is getting so much attention from the #gurus who don’t understand hitting! It’s laughable to see the social media hitting experts claiming that Alex Rodriguez doesn’t know what he’s talking about! I especially love the failed hitters who actually blame the coaches who taught them to hit...

@AROD A lot of gurus feel threatened by a legitimate hitter's opinion that conflicts with their gospel. So they gotta discredit.

@AROD What’s hilarious Jeff is that the nerds commenting on this don’t realize that in all the videos, including AJ’s sharing of what he does, that in all cases…ARod, Gwynn, Chipper, Big Hurt, Palmeiro, Berkman & others, they ALL kept the barrel above their hands to contact!

@AROD People are actually saying A Rod doesn’t know what he’s talking about? Seriously?

@AROD If you're trying to say A-Rod is wrong about hitting and do not have better career stats maybe just STFU.

@AROD I love A-Rod's hitting videos. Interesting how he describes the HLP as a "golf swing" that's what our coaches used to call it and we were taught NOT to do it

@AROD Arod worked with Charlie Lau jr. His swing is basically what he taught if you read his book. Lau Jr. used his dad’s principles with a high follow through. The original Lau Sr. book mentioned the swing was slightly up but working from a downward approach.

@AROD And nobody does it now. Being a pro means nothing bro. Sorry. Some of the dumbest people I know are pros. Nobody his a ball with the barrel even or above the hands. Nobody. Not him. Not you. Nobody.

@AROD Steve Deangelis taught me this approach when I was like 12. It makes perfect sense. How are you going to tell AROD he’s wrong 😂😂😂

They watch the barrel and not the hands. Well the hands don’t hold the barrel- they hold the handle. That movement is down not arching. Players don’t think along the arc of the barrel- they think about the part holding the back and that is down and straight to it. You don’t have time for all these asinine thoughts they teach when a pitcher is trying to get you out and the ball isn’t on a string.

@AROD I would bet that the “Gurus” have never heard of the knob drill either, and they damn sure don’t understand the importance of weight transfer.

@AROD Well he does make a silver bullet claim about batting average.....I wonder if there are some more factors contributing to lower batting averages (what gets incentivized, every relief pitcher throwing 100mph, etc.)

@AROD If you play enough as a kid, you should be able to figure it our on your own. Never had anyone tell me how to hit until I got to pro level. Eric Soderholm should have written a book. He was a student.

@AROD The barrel also stays in the hitting zone longer with this approach. The drop your bat head approach only crosses the path of the ball at one point which significantly reduces the chance of contact

@AROD A-Rod is spot on here. His mechanics are absolutely fundamental musts. Even if you do it AWESOMELY, you’ll still fail 725 / 1000 at LEAST. HOFers fail only 700 / 100 for that .300 clip - the bar

@AROD What’s hilarious is explaining hitting to someone who doesn’t know hitting by teaching them with golf jargon when they don’t know golf jargon.

@AROD It’s honestly simple. You gotta think down. The weight of the barrel (this is called gravity, I think) creates a diff angle as you’re turning. Think down, planet earth levels you off. As a righty who swings lefty (me), I absolutely HAD to think down and on top. All L/Rs relate

He’s right about everything, but he’s flexing, when the key is to be, with your muscles, SUPER RELAXED! I call it “hanging” - there’s no tension anywhere in your entire body - you float, and thus don’t twitch at the balls movement. Float and wait until the ball is in the zone, and unleash the back hip (to drive the outside slider to the opposite gap) and throw the hands, knob of the bar to the ball, hit the inside part of the baseball.

@AROD I think a lot of the debate is semantics. And different players will have different success depending how they interpret what is being said and how the person is saying it
