“To give real service you must add something which cannot be bought or measured with money, and that is sincerity and integrity.” Day 15 of #Sebaashray2 in Budge Budge stood as a living reflection of this truth. Not as a staged programme or a symbolic outreach, but as a... grounded exercise in what sincere public service actually looks like when it reaches people where they are. What unfolded in Budge Budge was governance in its most human form. Doctors listened before they prescribed, teams responded before questions were asked, and reassurance travelled as freely as treatment. There was no rush to perform, only a commitment to serve quietly, patiently, and thoroughly. This is the measure of people-centric governance: when sincerity guides service, and integrity anchors every decision, public trust is not demanded, it is earned.show more

“All other pleasures and possessions pale into nothingness before service which is rendered in a spirit of joy.” This idea of service is not abstract to me. It is visible on the ground, in places like Budge Budge, where #Sebaashray2 continues to function not as an obligation, but as a shared commitment carried with care and purpose. On Day 17, what stood out was not scale or spectacle, but the quiet confidence with which healthcare was delivered. Doctors, volunteers, and staff worked with an ease that comes only when service is internalised not imposed. That is the joy Mahatma Gandhi spoke of: ‘service performed with sincerity, not compulsion’. Sebaashray 2 reminds me every day that when service is rooted in care and responsibility, it leaves behind something lasting: trust, reassurance, and lives strengthened through care.

“There is no higher religion than human service. To work for the common good is the greatest creed.” As Sebaashray 2 concludes in Budge Budge today, I mark this moment not as an ending, but as an occasion to reflect on what service must truly mean in public life. This initiative has reaffirmed a principle that must guide every act of governance: that service to people is not episodic or symbolic, but a responsibility carried with seriousness and intent. The work carried out here, from diagnosis and consultation to treatment and referral reflects an approach to governance that prioritises access, continuity, and accountability. It demonstrates what is possible when systems are designed not around convenience, but around people. As #Sebaashray2 advances to Bishnupur, our obligation advances with it. Wherever people stand in need of care or reassurance, the state must respond with firmness and resolve.

The guiding principle behind Sebaashray has been unambiguous: care must be timely, humane, and accessible to all, without exception. Healthcare cannot be a privilege determined by distance, delay, or circumstance, it must reach people when they need it most. What we witnessed at Budge Budge on Day 18 of #Sebaashray2 was the outcome of a system consciously designed to recognise urgency early and respond without hesitation. Sebaashray is built to act before vulnerability turns into crisis, and before delay compounds suffering. Day after day, Sebaashray is demonstrating that governance need not be reactive, it can be anticipatory, responsive, and reliable. Its strength lies not in a single moment of care, but in the consistency with which that care is delivered, across communities and circumstances. When people know that help will arrive, not as charity, but as a right, it restores more than health. It restores confidence in institutions, and dignity in public service. That certainty is the real measure of Sebaashray’s impact, and it is the standard we remain committed to uphold.

“Life’s most persistent and urgent question is, ‘What are you doing for others?’” On Day 16 of #Sebaashray2 in Budge Budge, the answer took shape not in rhetoric, but in action. What unfolded was a healthcare system conceived with foresight, executed with precision, and anchored in an unwavering commitment to each patient’s journey from concern to care. In Diamond Harbour, I have sought to ensure that the question of “what are you doing for others” is answered not through statements, but through the quiet consistency of service where people remain at the centre of every decision, every process, and every outcome. Day 16 of Sebaashray 2 reaffirmed this ethic. It reflected a model of governance where service is steady rather than episodic, accountability is built into action, and impact is measured by outcomes that genuinely improve lives.

It often begins with one small moment, a doctor kneeling to speak to an elderly woman, a volunteer helping someone read a prescription and suddenly #Sebaashray2 becomes larger than a programme. From the first light of day, the camps carry a quiet resolve. Teams move with practiced ease, conversations unfold without haste, and care is delivered with the same seriousness as on the first day. There is no sense of winding down, only of responsibility being seen through to the end. As Sebaashray 2 draws its curtain in Metiaburuz, it does not conclude in spirit. It moves forward. From here, the work will begin anew in Budge Budge, carrying with it the lessons, the trust, and the quiet confidence earned on the ground. Because Sebaashray, at its heart, is not bound to a location. It lives in these moments where public service feels personal, and care is delivered not as a favour, but as a duty.

“The simplest acts of kindness are by far more powerful than a thousand heads bowing in prayer.” Day after day, #Sebaashray2 proves that kindness is not a ritual, not a performance, not a staged promise, it is a force that walks straight into the lives of the people. You can hear it in the steady hum of service that refuses to pause, even for a moment. Sebaashray is not just an initiative, it is a reminder that governance can have a heartbeat. That care can be limitless. That compassion can be organised, disciplined, and unshakeable. Wherever it reaches, it leaves behind a simple truth: dignity is not charity, and service is not sympathy. It is responsibility. It is duty. And it is the moral compass that guides this mission every single day. In each lane, under every tent, across every queue, Sebaashray embodies what true public service must look like: quiet, constant, and deeply human.

My approach to Sebaashray has always been rooted in the belief that public service is not a matter of convenience, and responsibility cannot be set aside. On Day 37, that conviction guided the work on the ground, reflecting a shared understanding that service is a duty, and it must be carried out with sincerity and care. In Falta, and in every place Sebaashray reaches, the commitment remains the same. To serve everyone without any exclusion. This is what continues to guide us forward, day after day, place after place with consistency, focus, and accountability.

There is no purpose more profound than to stand among people, to walk beside them, look into their eyes, and witness first-hand the trust they place in us when they are at their most vulnerable. As I moved through every section, I listened quietly to patients and their families, their worries, their exhaustion, their courage in the face of illness. What moved me most was the unmistakable relief of knowing that their pain was seen and their voices heard. This is the ethic that must animate governance: to reach before suffering deepens, to respond before hope fades. And at the heart of #Sebaashray2 lies the trust of our people. It is their faith that steadies every difficult decision, that strengthens my resolve through every test, and that keeps me walking this path of service every single day.

More than a programme, Sebaashray-2 is a statement of principle about how care should be delivered and how it should never be denied. It rejects the comfort of postponement, because in healthcare, delay is injustice to those who cannot afford to wait. It rejects the impulse to judge illness, recognising that suffering is a human condition to be met with care and respect. It rejects leaving treatment to uncertainty, fortune, or the overstretched resilience of families who already shoulder profound emotional and financial burdens. And most importantly, it rejects the notion that vulnerability must bargain for dignity, or that a person in pain must plead, demonstrate, or validate their despair to receive compassion. Now, as Sebaashray-2 enters its 32nd day in Satghachia, its greatest message is consistency; service that does not appear and disappear, but service that stays. This is resolve. This is presence. This is trust built through continuity. #Sebaashray2 continues, rooted in people, purpose, and responsibility.

Sebaashray stands as proof that care knows no limits, and that compassion, when guided with purpose, can be structured, resilient, and unwavering. Wherever #Sebaashray2 extends its reach, it reinforces a fundamental belief: dignity is never an act of charity, and service is never born of sympathy. It is accountability. It is commitment. It is the ethical foundation that steers this effort each day. Across lanes and queues, beneath tents, and throughout Falta, Sebaashray reflects what public service should truly be: steady in presence, sincere in intent, and rooted in humanity.

Such a special and deeply rewarding afternoon moderating the “Leadership as Service to Leadership in Action” panel at the Hadiza Bala Usman @ 50 Governance Colloquium . I had the privilege of guiding an honest, thoughtful and forward-looking conversation with Taiwo Oyedele, Waziri Adio, Rinsola Abiola, Mohammed Sani Dattijo and Habiba Lawal as we unpacked what real leadership looks like in today’s Nigeria — from fiscal reform and economic governance to accountability, institutions and rebuilding public trust, especially with young people. What stood out most was the shared belief that leadership is not about noise or titles, but about service, courage, consistency and delivery. Grateful to be part of a room where ideas were exchanged with so much clarity, respect and purpose.

Sebaashray reverses the familiar script: instead of citizens running from pillar to pillar, public services now move purposefully toward the people they are meant to serve. On the first day of Sebaashray 2 in Satgachia, this philosophy took shape not as a promise, but as practice. This initiative reflects a deeper conviction: that governance must remain present even after the cameras move on. It is designed to stay, to follow through, and to stand with people when illness brings uncertainty into their lives. Satgachia’s first day marks the beginning of that commitment: quiet, resolute, and firmly anchored in service.

Too often, illness turns into anxiety long before treatment begins because help feels distant, expensive, or inaccessible. #Sebaashray2 interrupts that silence. It arrives early, listens carefully, and responds with precision. Across communities, we are seeing a fundamental shift: families no longer have to choose between delay and debt, between travel and treatment. Medical attention is no longer a privilege negotiated through means; it is reaching people where they live, when they need it. This is the work of a state that understands its role, not as a distant authority, but as a constant presence in the lives of its people.

Long before narratives were manufactured… before labels were assigned… before resistance was even given a name... there were women in south Lebanon. Lebanese women, in the early 1970s, speaking with unshaken voices about the horrors they witnessed under Israeli occupation. No scripts. No filters. No fear. Just truth. You watch them, and what strikes you is not only the weight of what they endured, but the way they carried it. With dignity. With clarity. With a defiance that no army could silence. They did not speak as victims. They spoke as witnesses. As guardians of memory. As the first line of resistance in south Lebanon. This is what so many choose to ignore: the story did not begin when it became convenient to tell it. The oppression was there. The resistance was there. And the people, especially the women, were already standing, already refusing to break. Their voices echo across generations, reminding us that resilience is not born overnight. It is inherited. It is lived. It is unwavering. Watch closely. This is where the story truly begins.

সেবার আলোয় আলোকিত হোক সুস্বাস্থ্যের পথ। Across every #Sebaashray2 camp, one principle is reaffirmed consistently. That governance must be judged by its ability to respond to need, promptly, fairly, and without barriers. Whether it is a routine medical concern or a critical emergency, the measure of the state lies in its readiness to act. Day 19 reflected this commitment in full measure. Each case represented not an isolated intervention, but a system functioning as intended - timely, coordinated, and dependable. Sebaashray exists to narrow the distance between citizens and care, ensuring that access to healthcare is not shaped by geography, income, or circumstance. It is anchored in a clear conviction that healthcare is not an act of benevolence, but a constitutional responsibility. When the state acts with efficiency and empathy, governance fulfills its highest purpose of standing quietly yet firmly on the side of its people.

মানুষের মর্যাদা সবচেয়ে বড় সত্য। The Constitution speaks of dignity as a right, not a favour. As we move ahead from Republic Day, that principle guided today’s work, ensuring that care remains organised, accessible, and uninterrupted for people across Diamond Harbour. With Mega Camps held simultaneously in all seven Assembly Constituencies, people were able to access consultations, diagnostics, medicines, and referrals without confusion or interruption. This coordination ensured that care did not end at the first step, but moved with people through every stage they required. This approach reflects what Sebaashray stands for. When people enter this system, they are not treated as numbers, but as individuals whose health journey deserves attention, follow-through, and respect. The confidence with which people participated today reinforces why this work matters. That trust carries an obligation, and I remain committed to strengthening Sebaashray as a model of healthcare that is reliable, humane, and firmly grounded in the belief that public service must consistently stand with the people it serves.

Serving people is not just a principle, it is the highest responsibility one can carry. The faith shown by the people of Diamond Harbour is deeply humbling, and I regard that trust as a sacred duty that must be honoured through action, not words. As long as our Gonodebota continue to stand by me with their love and confidence, my resolve to protect their health, dignity, and future will remain unwavering. This commitment is not conditional, not temporary, and not symbolic. It is total, enduring, and driven by the belief that public service must always put people first.

Public representatives are not above scrutiny. They are elected using taxpayers’ money and are answerable to the people. As citizens, we have every right to ask where public funds went, what work was done, and where the proof is. Threatening legal action for asking questions is not governance, it’s intimidation. Accountability is not a crime. Transparency is not optional.

They say that enduring change is shaped not by grand gestures alone, but by small acts carried out with constancy and conviction. From its very inception, #Sebaashray2 has been guided by this belief, setting new benchmarks and remaining anchored in a simple, unwavering principle: care must reach those who need it most. Over the past few days, 2,099 people in Metiaburuz and 2,625 people in Budge Budge have received spectacles, completely free of cost. For many, clearer vision is more than a medical intervention, it is the return of confidence, dignity, and hope. Through Sebaashray, impaired eyesight is no longer a limitation; it is a challenge we have chosen to confront, collectively and compassionately.
