Imagine a Google product being THIS retarded at search. YouTube search SUCKS example 876: Today's video about Tesla earnings? Buried after ~6,900 other videos, below many videos with 0 views. Despite being about Tesla, title incl "Tesla", timestamps/chapters include "Tesla", tags include "Tesla", transcript includes "Tesla". I talk to YT support and ask WTF. I show them this video. Their response? "YouTube's search engine aims to provide users with the most relevant results. These results may include videos, channels, playlists, and live streams". All I get is a bunch of braindead canned response. Zero IQ involved. No color on this specific issue. You can't possibly tell me these search results (in this order) make any sense. I would love for YouTube Creators to please explain why YouTube is ranking this video where it is on the search results, and why support was unable to provide anything but embarrassing canned responses in the face of this extremely embarrassing situation. FWIW, I did contact support first (before putting YT on blast) but that act of good faith was not helpful. Maybe THIS will produce an acceptable response. There are two I can think of 1. "This is a bug" 2. "Our search rank algo is absolutely retarded"

Screw it. I've been gatekeeping this, but here's a pro tip. Want to search someone's entire record on They try to make it difficult and force you to search court by court - one at a time. But I hacked the system. If you select Housing Court and then make the Court Location not match the Court Department, you can search by name and it brings up every case that person has had in every court. You're welcome!

Aditya was one of the early engg in Facebook & in week 2 of joining he was still figuring out what to do,none were giving any directions. Mark walked upto him & asked him to build a search engine -just him he didn't mean a team. Because people want to search for others through the search engine in Facebook & this is crucial. Aditya was pretty skeptical about himself as he didn't know how to build one. He suggested hiring someone from Google or Yahoo to build this out, Mark was like: "Dude if I can build Facebook you can build a damn search engine" And he actually ended up doing it! Still now he shares this lesson from this defining moment of his life to every founders - Anything could be done if you'd put your mind into it.

I built my first native Mac app! It's called Coverage. It connects with whatever you're playing on Spotify and makes effects play on the album cover. This effect is called Sheet. And when I say I, you know of course that I mean Astra and I. I don't know how to make Mac apps. That doesn't matter anymore. I'll make a demo video soon about how it works and how I prompted Astra. But I can't now because I'm on a plane, and that would be weird for my seat mates. So I just asked Codex to add a new feature to Coverage. I had it make a video capturing how rad it looks.

After several years of declining search traffic, Condé Nast CEO Roger Lynch has directed all the company's brands to operate as if search traffic to their properties will be zero. He says the era of turning search and social media traffic into profitable businesses is gone. And that if you run a media business that doesn't have an authoritative brand, a very strong niche, or a direct audience, you're going to be fighting hostile algo changes all the way down. He describes a recent board meeting: "We took a snapshot of search results from seven or eight years ago. And what you saw were a few sponsored links, then the ten blue links." "Do the same search today, you get an AI overview, then you get rows and rows and rows of commerce links, then you get sponsored stuff." "Each of the last three years, we would do our budgets, and we'd put forecasts in of search traffic declining. Because we'd seen the pattern of algorithm changes. And generally those algorithm changes were negative." "Every year, our search traffic was down more than we had forecast. So last year I told our teams, 'Assume there's no search.' You have to have your businesses planned as if search is zero. We don't expect it to be zero, we expect it to be a single-digit percentage of our traffic."

Robby is one of the most interesting product leaders in tech: he helped build Instagram Stories, Reels and Close Friends, and now leads core Google Search products including AI Overviews, AI Mode, Lens and ranking.
