I've just left the Mater Hospital after meeting health workers from many backgrounds who are genuinely terrified for their own safety and for the safety of their families. They are appealing for those behind these attacks to stop. These health workers are the people who care for us and our loved ones when we need them most. I made sure to share with them the deep appreciation that the vast majority of people have for the work they do every single day

They are often the first place families turn to for care, serving rural communities and our most vulnerable Californians. As Secretary of HHS, I worked hand in hand with community health centers to help deliver COVID-19 vaccines, and I saw firsthand the vital role they play by providing preventive care, primary care, and other essential health services. National Nursing Week is a chance for us all to thank our incredible nurses for the compassionate care and support they provide every day. Since 2018, we’ve helped an historic 100,000 nurses join our province’s workforce. Thirty thousand more are currently studying at Ontario schools, many of them supported by our Learn and Stay Grant, which covers tuition for nurses who stay and work in underserved parts of the province. I visited Winona Health to talk about expanding Minnesota’s health care workforce. We need more doctors, nurses, clinicians, and medical technicians in every corner of the state so people don't have to drive hours to get health care. As Governor, I’ll work with our colleges, employers, and unions to recruit and train medical professionals, expand health care pipelines, and support primary care providers across Minnesota.
