When - and how often - should I bathe my baby? For adults bathing is typically a daily event. But your newborn doesn’t need a daily bath. In fact, too much bathing can quickly dry out their delicate skin. And where it was once commonplace for your baby to be bathed within the first few hours after delivery, many hospitals are moving away from the practice. This is true for a couple reasons. First, babies are born covered in a waxy substance called vernix. Vernix - which protects your baby’s skin in utero - is both a natural moisturizer and an antibacterial barrier that the American Academy of Pediatrics recommends be left on infants’ skin in the hours immediately after birth. Hospitals are also increasingly prioritizing maternal bonding and the initiation of breastfeeding over an initial bath. Indeed, one study documented a 166% increase in breastfeeding initiation when infants’ first baths were delayed at least 12 hours after birth. (The World Health Organization recommends waiting at least 24 hours.) At home, it’s recommended that you begin with sponge baths only until your baby’s umbilical stump falls off (if you keep it clean and dry, this will usually happen within two weeks). Once your baby’s ready for a full fledged bath, it’s generally recommended that you begin with warm water and a soft washcloth, avoiding soaps and shampoos for the first 4-6 weeks (and using something gentle, baby approved, and unscented once you do). We have so much to learn from these voiceless souls. They suffer hunger, injuries, harsh weather, loneliness and, sadly, sometimes hatred and cruelty from people. Yet somehow, they continue to shower us with love, trust and affection. Look at this sweet dog simply trying to get a little love and affection from passing passengers. He isn't asking for much—just a gentle touch, a little attention and perhaps a moment of kindness. They are truly bundles of unconditional love. For a community dog, finding food every day can be a struggle. Finding someone who will stop, show kindness and treat them with compassion can be an even bigger challenge. And still, they keep trusting us. Perhaps this is what makes them so special. We may not be able to change the life of every animal, but each of us can make a small difference. Feed when you can. Offer water. Be kind. Don't chase or hurt them. And if an animal is in need, help them or connect them with someone who can. They ask for so little from us. A little food. A little kindness. I see acting as a controlled psychosis in a way. You're pretending to be somebody else and having their thoughts 16 hours a day, and moving like them, in their house, in their clothes. It's like having a sister or a roommate check in up here [in my mind] for a little bit. And I'm just very grateful that the people in my life understand that and know that. If you’re in a parking lot and someone tries to get into your car with you or pull you into theirs, fight back, scream “911” instead of “help,” and never leave the area with them. He told me that if they intend to k!ll you, they will have to do it right there rather than taking you to a private place of their choosing. Keep vigilant 🙏🙏

The difference in who we are as people is insane. At Costco when I used to go instead of paying for delivery - I would sometimes go with family and it’d be likely a Sunday and everyone can use a little bite in that help and I’d only get one and make my family member get their own because I felt weird getting two at once or even going back a second time to get another for them. They just have zero shame

This is the importance of hedges. If you have them, please keep them. Unlike fences they won't blow down, won't ever need painting or mending, and they protect and sustain our precious wildlife. This is Arthur at dawn, leaving Hedgehog Cabin where there are over 20 houses and pens, all warm and dry and safe with food nearby, to sleep away the day in my neighbour's hedge. Even though they have a dog. That's how important they are. Under that hedge, where the sun never reaches, the air is cool and dry, but fresh. Nature's rare and perfect atmosphere we can never imitate.
