While our lab has developed diverse neural dynamics models for manipulating rigid, deformable, and granular objects, having the model alone doesn’t solve the problem—planning with it remains a challenge. 💡 Enter BaB-ND, led by Keyi and Jiangwei! Break-A-Scene: Extracting Multiple Concepts from a Single Image introduce the task of textual scene decomposition: given a single image of a scene that may contain several concepts, we aim to extract a distinct text token for each concept, enabling fine-grained control over the generated scenes. To this end, we propose augmenting the input image with masks that indicate the presence of target concepts. These masks can be provided by the user or generated automatically by a pre-trained segmentation model. We then present a novel two-phase customization process that optimizes a set of dedicated textual embeddings (handles), as well as the model weights, striking a delicate balance between accurately capturing the concepts and avoiding overfitting. We employ a masked diffusion loss to enable handles to generate their assigned concepts, complemented by a novel loss on cross-attention maps to prevent entanglement. We also introduce union-sampling, a training strategy aimed to improve the ability of combining multiple concepts in generated images. We use several automatic metrics to quantitatively compare our method against several baselines, and further affirm the results using a user study. Finally, we showcase several applications of our method paper page:

Most of you know the work we do in GBV, we also do work in women empowerment. The two work in tandem. You know if you invite me to a conference, I stay behind and collect unused pens and notebooks for further use. I mean reduce, reuse and recycle. Lol. But most importantly I pick what we can use for our EMPAWA Mama program on Saturdays. I ask women who can share their skills to come to Soweto and speak to usm This Saturday we celebrated IWD and we did what we do best. Our Chama women met and were trained by one of the best Chama trainers CHAMA Champions who visited and gave great insights on how we can continue to grow VW Babes came to Soweto to participate and support our work and heh we have never seen these many VWs. The ladies stayed and also built our capacity We had a partnership with chiraz International at Jacaranda Hotel as usual we went with our Soweto mamas and there were topics like burnout, toxic relationships led by our own psychologist Njoki Maina. We also learnt first aid and self defense. And Separ will be coming to Soweto to train our ladies in first aid as well as self defense. That is how we Accelerate Action #Usikimye

“Gifts” from our Czech friends to the russians — delivered🫡 4 tanks, an unmanned ground vehicle, a buggy, and a van were destroyed by drones purchased with the support of the Czech organization Dárek pro Putina — and these are just the first results of our cooperation. Most importantly, many russians became “good” ones — because there’s no escaping a fiber-optic drone😉 We sincerely thank our Czech friends for their support. These drones continue to effectively eliminate the enemy on the hottest sections of the frontline. More to come🤝

Artificial embryo samples aboard Tiangong Space Station for life science research Space "artificial embryo" samples and other life science experiments delivered by the Tianzhou-10 cargo spacecraft have been installed into experiment modules aboard China's Tiangong space station, the Technology and Engineering Center for Space Utilization under the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) said on Wednesday. The "artificial embryos" are stem cell-derived artificial human embryos. The embryos, though not true life forms and unable to develop into human babies, will help simulate the earliest stages of human development. Once the experiments are completed, the artificial embryo samples will be frozen in orbit and then returned to Earth on a future mission for side-by-side analysis with ground-based controls in laboratories on the ground. This effort is part of a broader suite of 41 space science experiments being deployed aboard Tiangong, supporting its latest round of research on the orbiting laboratory.

We are extremely proud of this achievement that we have accomplished together. We truly risked our lives to reach this place, as it is located very close to military deployment areas, and the road was extremely dangerous at every moment. We have now started our new project to provide clean drinking water, and this truck is heading to one of the most dangerous and heavily affected areas. The work is exhausting and extremely tiring, but the need for clean water cannot wait. Displaced families are facing a severe shortage of safe drinking water, and more people are relying on this support every day. Today, we are launching water truck number 11 as part of this project, continuing despite all challenges and risks. Meanwhile the Askrandu Brigade of ISPR led by Col. Shehzad Raza has released a staged propaganda video in an apparent attempt to deflect attention from the security lapses exposed by the attack.

We believe there are many future chapters still to be written with this technology, and we want future founders to be able to reference and build on our experience—to start on second base.
