The incident occurred at about 1450 hours on 30 March 2026, when troops under Sector 2 deployed at Dutse Kura came under attack while escorting civilians along the Buratai–Kamuya axis. On the Bulabulin Forest axis, troops of Sector 2 in conjunction with elements of Sector 2 Stabilisation Force Brigade and the Civilian Joint Task Force cleared terrorist enclaves at Mar, Subdu, Yaro Lawanti and Yaro Shuwari as well as other areas contiguous to the Bulabulin Forest and the Kamadogu Yobe stretch. During the operation, supported by assault air platforms from the Air Component Command, the troops made contact at Malam Shiri Village and engaged the terrorists in a well-coordinated and tactical flanking manoeuvre, neutralising 11 terrorists and forcing others to flee with varying degrees of injuries. TROOPS ELIMINATE TOP SAMBISA COMMANDER, 10 TERRORISTS IN NIGHT OPERATION Troops of the Joint Task Force (North East), Operation HADIN KAI, have recorded a major operational success with the elimination of a senior Boko Haram/ISWAP commander, Abu Khalid, and 10 other terrorists during a night operation in Borno State. In a statement signed by the Media Information Officer Headquarters Joint Task Force North East Operation HADIN KAI, Lieutenant Colonel Sani Uba says, Abu Khalid, identified as the second-in-command of Boko Haram in the Sambisa Forest, was neutralised by troops of Sector 1, in collaboration with the Civilian Joint Task Force, during an engagement at the Komala area of Konduga Local Government Area at about 11:00 p.m. The operation came barely 24 hours after the elimination of another notorious commander, Julaibib, in the Gujba axis of the Timbuktu Triangle. Abu Khalid was a key figure in the terrorist hierarchy, responsible for coordinating operations and logistics within the Sambisa axis. Items recovered during the operation included five AK-47 rifles, magazines, bicycles, assorted logistics and food items, as well as large quantities of medical supplies. No casualty was recorded among the troops. Clearance operations are ongoing across the Sambisa Forest, Mandara Mountains, Timbuktu Triangle and other terrorist hideouts in the North-East.

In a statement signed by the Media Information Officer Headquarters Joint Task Force North East Operation HADIN KAI, Lieutenant Colonel Sani Uba says, Abu Khalid, identified as the second-in-command of Boko Haram in the Sambisa Forest, was neutralised by troops of Sector 1, in collaboration with the Civilian Joint Task Force, during an engagement at the Komala area of Konduga Local Government Area at about 11:00 p.m. The operation came barely 24 hours after the elimination of another notorious commander, Julaibib, in the Gujba axis of the Timbuktu Triangle. Abu Khalid was a key figure in the terrorist hierarchy, responsible for coordinating operations and logistics within the Sambisa axis. Items recovered during the operation included five AK-47 rifles, magazines, bicycles, assorted logistics and food items, as well as large quantities of medical supplies. The FGGC facility is currently being utilized by the Borno State Government as temporary hostel accommodation for students of the Federal Polytechnic, Monguno. The terrorists reportedly gained access to the facility with the assistance of suspected collaborators in an attempt to abduct students. Alert security personnel immediately engaged the terrorists with coordinated and overwhelming firepower, effectively stalling their advance with Sector 3 Quick Reaction Force (QRF) immediately reinforcing the school.
