I think we might need to invent a new term for Rapid Intensification for this Blizzard. Because it is about to BLOW the normal parameters OUT OF THE PARK. ✅Normal rapid intensification, or Bombogenesis, is defined as a Storm dropping 24 millibars in pressure in 24 hours. That alone is an incredibly high rate. ⏫This Storm is forecast to deepen nearly DOUBLE that rate, with pressure falling OVER 40 millibars in just 24 hours. That kind of strengthening is almost UNHEARD OF. 💨 At peak intensity, this Storm may even LOOK like a Hurricane on satellite, with a tight core and powerful wind field wrapping around it. ⚠️ This level of intensification is exactly why impacts could become so extreme. 👊 This Storm is the REAL DEAL, my brotheren. Hurricane Lowell just EXPLOSIVELY intensified from a 90 MPH Category 1 to a 125 MPH Category 3 in only 3 HOURS. This is a nuclear rate of intensification for the open Central Pacific Ocean, and Lowell is now forecast to approach CAT 5 intensity about ~500 miles SE of Hawaii.

Typhoon Dolphin is passing directly over Wenzhou, a city home to nearly 10 MILLION residents, with an extremely heavy rain core and training rainbands on the eastern side of her circulation. While the storm’s winds didn’t really intensity over the East China Sea, her surrounding Central Dense Overcast did, and this last-minute resurgence of tropical convection created a massive wall of heavy rain and storm surge that has slammed hundreds of kilometers of China’s coastline to the north of Dolphin’s ~940 mbar eye. Dangerous freshwater floods and widespread power outages are ongoing.

I don't specifically recall EVER seeing the eyewall features of any tropical cyclone appearing to be *flashing* like a strobe light like this! The speed of rotation within the eyewall is so fast that each time the satellite image updates, each eyewall feature is in a totally different place, and this gives us the strobe light effect. This is truly awe-inspiring to witness. This is pushing the physical limits of how strong a storm can possibly get on the face of this planet.

The previously unnamed Tropical Storm in the shallow Malacca Strait has since been given the name Senyar. The system made landfall over the city of Langsa in Aceh, Indonesia at a 50 mph (80 kph), 996 mbar peak intensity. But Senyar isn’t done. The storm has now RE-EMERGED into the Malacca Strait and is forecast to soon make a second landfall, this one in Malaysia. The divorced low-level and mid-level centers of Tropical Storm Bertha simply cannot see eye to eye. As they continue to drift further apart, the chances of the storm as a whole getting any stronger than she already has are rapidly dwindling. A very weak landfall near New Orleans, Louisiana is imminent, with a second landfall over Houston, Texas still in the forecast for tomorrow.

At 85 mph (140 kph) and 976 mbar, Category 1 Cyclone Shakhti has formed amidst a spattering of desert lightning in the Arabian Sea. Though she is swirling in Oman’s direction, she is forecast to abruptly recurve just offshore of the Arabian Peninsula and evaporate harmlessly over open water.

A girl alone with a dolphin on top of her reads as content. A girl with her mom laughing behind her reads as a family vacation that went wrong. The mom turns the clip from suggestive to funny. Hurricane Polo’s satellite presentation has taken a turn for the bizarre this morning. In the NW quadrant, a massive cryovolcanic eruption of cold-boiling convection is spilling over into the CDO, becoming more massive than the actual core itself and pressing in on the eyewall as an ongoing EWRC buckles the storm’s symmetry. The onset of this new EWRC and asymmetry means that Polo is now unlikely to reach a 2nd 175+ MPH peak, as was previously forecast. Nevertheless, the Hurricane still has some remaining time over heated, high-octane seawaters before turning north into Baja California.

So this is a weird one. I was looking at flight radar cause they just decided to drop like infinite trails in a row and I noticed a helicopter with strange markings I have never seen in the the middle of deep Maine woods. North of Jackman(for reference on sat imagery) I zoom into this little tiny helicopter pad in the middle of nowhere, literally, I’ve been up there and there’s nothing. Right next to the helicopter pad is a strange facility that looks a lot like it has a bunch of radar. While I’m screen recording the helicopter disappears, I go back to check the history to get a screenshot of the information, and it’s been erased. 🤔🤔🤔 so just for poops and giggles I checked the satellite imagery from that area to see if there’s any strange affects happening in cloud structure, and weirdly enough, that location seems to be the center of some very frequency type cloud structures, and there’s a couple weird anomaly lines that pop up.

TROPICAL UPDATE: Invest #97L odds haven't changed the past 12 hours, still at 70%. I feel the NHC wants to wait until the Hurricane Hunters get a better look at it this thing under the hood. Considering this will be pushing onshore *tomorrow* in TX/LA, I still would have preferred Potential Tropical Cyclone/System to be designated so more tropical weather alerts and communication products could have been issued. For example, my sister is a teacher in the Galveston Bay area. She is under the impression she is going to school Tuesday (along with her kids) because a Tropical Storm Watch/Warning has not been issued yet. The school district needs that additional information to make better decisions. I have a lot of respect for the NHC, I just disagree with them on this one.

While the most likely scenario at this point in time is for Hurricane Lowell to pass to the west of the island chain, Kaua’i and Ni’ihau should still be on alert for any eastward shifts that result in a more direct potential impact. This is a strong and dangerous 130 MPH storm that is lurking in the dark waters beneath them.
