Tutorial: Automating KYC with AI agents 🪪🕵 I’m creating a new tutorial series of automating practical document workflows with agents. Every financial institution needs to perform KYC (know your customer) to verify a customer’s identity, and this involves manually sifting through IDs, bank statements, etc. and doing the cross-checking... by hand. This is a great first use case for agentic document workflows: 1. Extract identification information from the user supplied ID (license, passport) 2. Extract fields from utility bills/bank statements and then use LLMs to cross-validate extracted fields with the extracted ID fields It obviously doesn’t cover the full e2e process and uses publicly available online data, but should be a good reference guide to get started. Agentic KYC needs evidence boundaries. Extracted fields should carry source citations and confidence, conflicting records should escalate, and sensitive documents should stay minimized. Automation is valuable when every verification decision remains reviewable.

By default the AI model knows absolutely nothing relevant to perform the task successfully. The whole job of context engineering is to prioritize what the model has as information to work with. Small deviations in the goals, instructions, domain understanding, or underlying data you supply the model will lead to wildly different outcomes. This is where you should spend almost all your time and energy in a workflow. We will start to religiously document more of our workflows and business processes, create clearer goals for people and agents, and ensure our tech infra is setup to get AI agents the right information. The lessons are currently being learned the fastest with coding agents, but the same lessons will apply to every field of knowledge work going forward. dex has a great talk on this that’s absolutely worth your time to watch.

You might’ve followed us since the “RAG framework” days.
