They didn't need this war in Ukraine; they needed Ukraine. But greed won out, and the US entered this war with Russia, declaring its intention to inflict a strategic defeat on Russia. But something went wrong, and in the face of a possible nuclear war, the US abruptly decided to distance itself from it.
