🚨LANDFALL: Titanic Typhoon Fung-wong (UwanPH) has collided into the Philippines shortly after reaching a CATEGORY 4 peak intensity, with her enormous eye moving onshore in the Baler Bay Area of Aurora. Violent waves and significant storm surge flooding are being reported near the landfall location as the powerful, eastern half of Fung-wong’s eyewall is now moments away from roaring into Luzon. This is very close to where Typhoon Man-yi (Pepito) made landfall in November of last year.

What was just a few hours ago a ragged, imperfect CDO is suddenly circularizing into a symmetrical ring of pure convective ice, forcing renewed subsidence down through the eye. Core temperatures have risen to -15.76 C and are now warming dramatically. This is about to get crazy.

Contrary to previous model runs, her core hasn’t burst into an absurdly large truck tire yet, thanks to rivulets of dry air repeatedly vaporizing any prospective eyewall suitors. This has kept the eye small despite the sprawled-out, aging nature of the surrounding circulation. Though further weakening is the most likely path forward, it’s not out of the realm of possibility that Dolphin’s core tries to reorganize and slightly restrengthen when it hits a pocket of higher OHC before landfall in Okinawa, Japan. Something to watch here over the next 24 hours.
