And that is: ultimately, VanEck has been around before Bitcoin. We will walk away from Bitcoin if we think the thesis is fundamentally broken. We don’t right now, but you always have to look at the underlying technology and the crypto. What the Bitcoin community has been asking itself is: Is there enough encryption in Bitcoin, because quantum computing is coming? And secondly: Is there enough privacy in Bitcoin? And so a lot of Bitcoin OGs or maxis have been looking at Zcash. Zcash is a token. It’s sort of related to Bitcoin with a lot more privacy. The kind of garbage that we got about Bitcoin four years ago was: ‘It’s used for all bad illicit behavior.’ But now everyone kind of realizes that when you move money around on the Bitcoin blockchain, you can see it. But it does make sense to heat your home, and bitcoin miners are great heaters 🔥 It's infrastructure. It's utility. And once it's in your home, hashrate is being decentralized. When hundreds of millions of homes & businesses around the world are using hashrate heating Then the network becomes much more secure and decentralized. And any govt intervention (look up Executive Order 6102) becomes a lot more difficult to pull off. Try outlawing bitcoin and telling people they can't heat their homes. See how that goes. But every once in a while, we’ve used a block to do something else too: mark a moment worth remembering. Leaving a message in a block isn’t exactly new. Satoshi did it in the first one: “The Times 03/Jan/2009 Chancellor on brink of second bailout for banks.” A newspaper headline, timestamped into history. We’ve followed Satoshi’s example a few times since. Like when El Salvador declared bitcoin legal tender, or when the ESG crowd came for bitcoin mining. And, on a more personal note, when I asked Summer Meng to marry me, which we also captured in this video. Those messages will remain on the bitcoin timechain forever. So, did I spam bitcoin?
