"User interfaces are largely going to go away. Because the agents speak English, or other languages. You can talk to them. You can say what you want. The UI can be generated. So I can say, generate me a set of buttons that allows me to solve this problem,...

This 🤡 already predicted that young people would change names when they become adults because of the crazy stuff they would post online while young. His ability to predict the future is that of a third grader.

Eric has the good fortune of being famous, wealthy, and knows enough edgy people who tell him what they think. UI isn’t going away because eyes aren’t going away. UI is changing, and its share of interaction will changed, but interfaces are still bound by our mental constraints.

I call bullshit on this. A huge bullshit actually. Why do we use paper at all today, we could just memorize things right? Why do we watch movies, we could just read right? Why do we play games we could just imagine playing it right? Utter bullshit!

Quite a few products wouldn’t even need screens at all if we can give it voice commands. Like my oven or thermostat.

Yes, AI will very much redefine how we interact with machine. I for one have almost stopped using keyboard.

@Marco20307855 Love your posts and although I talk sometimes I don’t want to talk all the time to interact with a computer. Just like buttons making a comeback in cars, UI may have a much longer life than “going away”. Pendulum swings

@rohanpaul_ai I don’t think anyone is suggesting that screens will be eliminated but that there are some contexts and applications where they are not necessary.

No it’s not lmao. Humans are at the end of the supply chain and consume websites. Why would they go away? Are people just gonna start reading binary machine code?

Hold on here, Eric Schmidt is making a claim that our ears are a better input device than our eyes? That sounds like he's selling the public more garbage like google glass.

Not just web but computing in general. This is what I've been thinking for a while. Why keep adding more abstractions when you can remove layers? You don't always need a UI but when you do why not have it procedurally generated based on context? Sometimes less is more.

Oversimplification. The amount of skill and technical knowledge that is required to correctly steer an LLM is stunning and is what makes a final product stand out vs blend into the slop category. Few understand this as only few have that skill.

Thnik big. Don't listen to that guy spouting crap, dressing up trivial stuff like user interfaces in a serious tone—listen to me. We need to build humanoids, develop new construction methods suited to robots, and raise a 300-story building!!!!!!!!

I would say the UI isn't disappearing, it's shifting to the prompt layer, and that prompt layer will be the most contested real estate on the internet. Right now, Google owns discovery. Agents break that. When an LLM picks your restaurant, your SaaS tool, your news source, the "interface" is the training data and the system prompt. Brand, SEO, design, onboarding funnels, all bypassed. So the war isn't about buttons. It's about becoming the default noun in the model's mind. That's a different game than web3 ever was, and most companies aren't ready

I wonder how and where will the AI slop thing fit in here? And will humans adapt to it at the anticipated pace? I guess, most of us love seeing colors and visuals.

Generating a UI is the easy half. The hard half is the same request producing the same buttons tomorrow. You can't build a habit, a tutorial or a support process on an interface reinvented per prompt.

Generated UI is compelling, but I suspect the durable primitive is not the button set. It is the agent’s shared state, permissions, and ability to explain what changed between steps.

Generated interfaces do look like the natural next layer. The hard part is preserving user control when the UI is created on demand, especially for accessibility and repeatability.

I'll believe UIs are dead when I stop seeing Bloomberg terminals. Generated interfaces will own the one-off tasks, sure. But anything you do 100x a day lives in muscle memory, not prompts.

when we were at facebook, we believed that at some point in the future, most of the transactions on the internet would not be done by humans they would be done by machines that conviction shaped every architectural decision behind sui we built sui for the world we knew was coming a world where machines will be the primary economic actors on the internet and that world is no longer a forecast. it is unfolding right in front of us the internet has reached a tipping point where automated activity, supercharged by AI, now outpaces human interaction non-human traffic now accounts for more than 50% of all global web activity and you can see humans using agentic workflows more and more in their daily lives in the next years, that trend is going to grow exponentially and the volume of financial transactions executed by agents is also going to grow exponentially with it each agentic workload will be running multiple thousand economic transactions a second and this is going to be orders of magnitude higher than what human wallets do today the L1s optimized for human usage patterns, human attention, human accounts, and human patience cannot adapt to where this is going i have always said this if it is not in the foundation, you cannot patch your way to it later and rn, no other L1 has the foundation sui has this is why agentic apps like Beep, Audric, WaterX are choosing sui and this is just a start. more agentic apps will keep landing on sui because agents are optimizers. they will always route through the fastest, cheapest path on the internet and that path is sui we believed it at facebook. we believe it more today than we ever did the agentic economy is inevitable. and it will run on Sui

New Short Course: Building AI Browser Agents! Learn how to build AI agents that interact and take actions on websites in this course, created in partnership with and taught by and @namangarg0, Co-founders of AGI Inc. AI browser agents can log into websites, fill out forms, click through web pages, or even place orders online for you. They use both visual information, like screenshots, and structural data, like the HTML or Document Object Model (DOM) of a web page, to reason and take action. With the complexity of webpages and multiple possible actions at each step, it can be challenging for an AI browser agent to complete an assigned task. Because these agents run long action sequences, a single error—like clicking the wrong button or misreading a field—can lead to unexpected outcomes or errors that compound over time. In this course, you'll understand how autonomous web agents work, their current limitations, and how AgentQ enables them to improve through self-correction. In detail, you'll: - Learn what web agents are, how they automate tasks online, their architecture, key components, limitations, and an overview of their decision-making strategies. - Build a web agent that can scrape website and return course recommendations in a structured output format. - Build an autonomous web agent that can execute multiple tasks, such as finding and summarizing webpages, filling out a form, and signing up for a newsletter. - Explore AgentQ, a framework that enables agents to self-correct by combining Monte Carlo Tree Search (MCTS), a self-critique mechanism for continuous improvement, and Direct Preference Optimization (DPO). - Deep dive into MCTS, learn how it finds an effective path, illustrated by an example of Gridworld animation, and use AgentQ to complete web tasks. - Understand AI agents' current state and future directions—including key factors shaping their evolution, such as hardware, algorithm innovation, and data availability. By the end of this course, you will have hands-on experience building browser agents and a deeper understanding of how to make them more robust and reliable. Please sign up here:

Eric Schmidt on the three AI breakthroughs that will "profoundly change the world very quickly": "At some point these agents will develop their own language. And that's the point when we don't understand what we're doing." The first is infinite context windows: "This year people are inventing a context window that is infinitely long." Schmidt explains this enables "chain of thought reasoning"—breaking complex problems into step-by-step recipes and iterating on each answer. "We should be able in 5 years to be able to produce thousand-step recipes to solve really important problems in science, in medicine, in material science, climate change." The second is agents: "Read all of chemistry, learn something about chemistry, have a bunch of hypotheses about chemistry, run some tests in a lab about chemistry, and then add that to your agent." He predicts millions of these agents will emerge, with infrastructure to support them: "There'll be like the equivalent of GitHub for agents. There'll be lots and lots of agents running around and available to you." The third is text-to-action: "Write me a piece of software to do something, right? You just say it. Can you imagine having programmers that actually do what you say you want and it does it 24 hours a day." But what happens when you combine all three? "At some point these systems will get powerful enough that you'll be able to take the agents and they'll start to work together." Once we stop understanding what these systems are doing, Eric Schmidt believes we have one option left: Pull the plug.

Airtable's Howie Liu says that basically everyone will need to graduate from being ICs to ICs that manage teams of 20-30 agents: "The best developers today don't just sit there in front of their IDEs and synchronously talk to their agent." "[Instead], you have like 30 separate branches that are each being worked on by a different agent. And you can have the agents continue to update the branches based on human and other agent feedback." "And I think this whole idea of it taking hours for that entire loop to complete — agent pushes some changes, the changes get feedback from other agents or humans, the agent responds to that — that whole loop could be hours, not just minutes. So you're not going to just sit there and watch it one at a time." "But the powerful thing about this is, each one is still actually operating faster than a human engineer. One agent on one branch can do the work of maybe three humans, operating 3x as fast. So it's like a 10x leverage factor just for one agent." "But the best engineers are now able to multitask and say, 'I'm going to oversee my own little team of 20-30 agents working concurrently.'" "Everyone needs to graduate from being an IC to an IC manager of agents. Meaning, if you're a VC analyst, your job should no longer be to go synchronously research one company. You need to go and research like 30 companies, and do them all faster, better, and higher quality than you could before." "That's the greatest leap that is going to be challenging for a lot of people in a lot of roles. Because it's a totally different mentality in how you operate, and what your role is."

Here we go again 🚀! Excited to announce that we're building A1Zap (YC W25) with Pennie Li and that we're in the Y Combinator W25 batch in San Francisco! What is A1Base? A1Base gives AI Agents a real world identity for work. We do that by rebuilding Twilio and Okta from the ground up, putting AI Agents first. This means developers can make AI-first agentic applications 10x easier with our API's. ⁉️ Why are we doing this? Because there's a huge torrent of new valuable companies possible with AI agents, but to get their AI Agents to users, they have to chain custom apps, chat interfaces, awkward Slack integrations, browser bots, and wrestle with Twilio’s legacy API (which is built for marketing). We solve this by providing developers with an easy to use API to interface your AI agent with humans/coworkers/users where they are in this case in Whatsapp, Slack, Teams, SMS and more) - with AI Agent features built in. These digital workers are poised to transform how we work and we're the critical infrastructure to help them interact naturally in human workflows. We're not just building another AI tool. We're creating the infrastructure that will enable AI agents to become a natural part of the workforce - handling everything from customer support to sales development to creative work. We're backed by Y Combinator and working with founding teams who share our vision. We believe that in the near future, AI Agents with human coworkers will enable us to pursue more creative and impactful work. Our mission is to help developers build AI Agents that people can partner with and rely on as trusted allies—always with a human-first mindset. If you're thinking about the Agentic future of your company reach out! If you're looking to build your first AI Agentic company - reach out too - we have some amazing open source templates to get you started on the journey. Excited to share more of what we're up to soon 🔜.
