It is to help numb the throat and help with the pain associated with sore throat. Spitting it out after a while is probably so that a lot is not ingested over a long period of time.

what??! i thought you need to swallow it after spraying but the label says here that you are supposed to spray it, let it sit for 15 seconds, then spit it out i was today years old when i found out i've been using the product wrong my whole life 😭
