Wait a second, isn't that Godot?? Are they using Godot Engine as a map editor for Battlefield 6? What's going on?!?

Yep.

It's official at this point

This shall be da turning point

I hope so

They modeled all the guns in blender!!! (I just made it up)

Made all the texturing in Ucupaint

it's kind of silly but probably was more convenient than retooling their editor and shipping that to the public. seems like simple representations for what is just data that the actual engine ingests. you'll get cool community tools, but it probably will be awkward to use

I think there are some Godot fans in the team 🤣🤣

the idea that godot represents is very good for the industry.... but personally, I won't touch it. There's a lot of problems.

Rust rewrite when?

Oh God that's even worse

🤣🤣

So cool to see the Godot editor here. I assume it's for something like level editing. I have so many questions!

Yep, Portal is their "Forge mode"

Please don't clickbait this as "Battlefield 6 was made in Godot!!!!!" Because that's not what's happening here. I'm already seeing QRTs misrepresenting it.

Godot + Blender, it's confirmed 🤣🤣

I get it, free marketing, but please try to market things based on reality and not just hype. This is how you end up with AI "art" communities

But Godot will really be the map editor for BF6, so..

Yes, the level tools in Godot, not the engine. These are separate parts, and putting it like this will mislead indie devs, beginners, and random gamers

Yeah sure, I don't think that wasn't clear "as a map editor" not "as a game engine"

"Godot Engine as a map editor" Should be "Godot level tools integrated with Frostbite" There's no engine involvement there, it's just a UI and a debug renderer. Notice how they don't even have materials

I see what you mean, but you shouldn't assume malicious intent on my part 😁

so it's a Godot bridge for geometry and various interactive features?

I think it's exactly that

man I hope we can upload assets too, it would be so cool!

I never expected them to use Godot as a map/experience editor. This is amazing!

I really hope this will give visibility and prestige to the little blue robot

It seems to be an interface to mapmake and edit models outside of the main engine (I guess to protect IP?). Cool stuff though and haven't seen many people mention it

I fell out of my chair! I'm a huge Battlefield fan and a huge Godot fan 😮

Same! Really excited to play and try this tool out sometime

EA still won't provide funding.

They should donate some money! poor Godot devs, they don't get much fundings...

Did the RPGMaker guys do something? I have to check.

WE HAVE NEVER BEEN MORE BACK

Let's gooooo

i wonder if it will support all the way to custom weapons and playermodels :o prob not but omg i can dream

Wow I can’t believe they abandoned frostbite in favor of godot, the woke engine. So brave of them especially in today’s climate 🥶 I literally cannot believe it, these levels look hot. 🥵

They haven't abandoned Frostbite and please let it go!

[satire]

godon't wins again

all this realism to make you fight flying tanks

This appears to be part of a modding toolkit. So no, no proof they're not using it internally. But makes perfect sense, if releasing a public toolkit, that it would have its limited kit of features using an existing 3D scene editor as a base. Source: am game dev. Currently expanding my Unity Scene export tool for my own 3D engine that runs on devices as low spec as an Raspberry Pi Zero and even ESP32 as of last night. Reads a limited set of components, like Transforms, MeshFilters, Cameras, MeshColliders. Exports a custom hand-rolled binary format the engine reads, with everything but textures baked in to the scene file. For the first game made with this engine, I was able to task game jam team members that hadn't heard of the engine before, to place objects in the scene of the game, doing useful work. Hell, the main environment of the game (turned off here for perf) came from a whole another game that wasn't able to use it, just by transferring it as an UnityPackage to the export project. This is the real Dev UX hack.

Unbelievable! I am so curious how they did it!

I want to know more too

I remember hearing about people using Source 2 to build maps and then porting them into Unreal Engine 5 cuz the tools used for Source 2 are way way way more simple and robust for FPS development than the base tools in UE5.

Godot is now Industry standard

This actually makes a lot of sense. Runtime systems are the reason why you'd want to build a proprietary engine, not the editor. Why not just use an open-source level editor with a script to export into your engine's format? I've considered doing so with Blender.

i had no idea what godot is prior to this, care to explain why people are surprised over this?

@flex1_ Godot is a niche engine, free and open-soruce, it's small and lesser known but it's growing lately, there was even an urban legend that said it couldn't do 3D, it has always been the underdog but things are changing, and this is huge for Godot.

Even if the game doesnt run in godot using it as a map editor is smart as fuck

WHATTT?????? :O

This is really fucking cool

Would be intersting what capabilities they give to map makers other than placing whitebox proxy meshes. BF Portal has some sort of scripting and modified rules players can setup

wha

Super weird

LETS GO GODOOOOOOT

The irony of Dice using Godot as a map editor when Godot devs themselves use TrenchBroom / Qodot / Blender to make maps.

They sure are! It's awesome!

godot global domination might be sooner than we think

Cmon am I the only one that exactly knows WHAT people will create, share and play? 🍆😅

Fuck frostbite we gonna play REAL games made with godot 😂

That is actually really cool and a good thing

I was yesterday like this

Goatdot

So.... Halo 2 Donkey Kong Extreme?
