Drought to Deluge! Developing El Niño gives us an early preview of the pattern for late fall and winter. A strong Subtropical Jetstream will hover near Texas, Louisiana and the lower MS Valley through the next 1-2 weeks. Rainfall may total a foot plus in spots in the next 10 days with more possible after that. Medium range models can underestimate the rainfall. This jet is powered by a record warm Eastern Pacific, associated with the developing El Niño. There’s some chance this moisture axis will move east towards #Florida in about 2 weeks, but it’s too early to know. This active subtropical jet pattern is a preview of the stormy El Niño setup late fall into winter for the Southeast. #drought #rain #flood

There’s lots of “rumors” of future tropical storms. It’s probably a bit confusing. So let’s try to cut through all the tropical “noise” out there. There are two main things we are watching for the next two weeks. 1. A tropical wave near Africa which is likely to form by mid to late week and near the Lesser Antilles next Friday-ish. That will “most likely” be deflected out to sea by west to east steering over Florida/ Bahamas. 2. Moisture will gather in the Central Caribbean in about 10 days. It will “attempt” to develop. It may or may not happen. At that time a large upper low should be over the Gulf. It should drag any system Northeast. BUT here’s the key… if it’s delayed -or- if a piece is left behind, then a track WNW towards the Gulf is possible in about two weeks. Bottom line: While I can’t tell you exactly how strong and exactly where systems may track, I can give you a general overview of what needs to be watched to elucidate the pattern. Stay tuned!!

TEXAS FLOODS-Here’s a radar loop from the main event. From Thursday afternoon, July 3rd, through Sunday evening, July 6th. A leftover “plume” of tropical moisture from the remnants of Tropical Storm Barry surged north into the state, in combination with elevated moisture from the eastern Pacific from Hurricane Flossie. A shortwave trough emerged from the northwest along with some upper spin from the Gulf, and aided the formation of an MCV over central Texas. Starting late Wednesday, a funnel of this tropical moisture began feeding into the Hill Country, and along with the approaching shortwave, fueled the development of the MCV or (mesoscale convective vortex). This “spin” or the MCV, continued to produce widespread tropical downpours and thunderstorms overnight into Friday morning, July 4th. A burst of low-level air and moisture transport, what’s called the LLJ (Low-level jet) also continued to funnel moisture in to this MCV and continued storms overnight. This was where the bulk of the flooding occurred, and filled downstream rivers and tributaries. Each subsequent day brought bursts of convectively-driven showers and storms that would further exacerbate the flooding situation, on top of what already fell. This continues today, with more showers and storms forming as we speak. #txwx #TexasFloods

Sunday, July 26, 2026, 7:33 AM: Due to the consistently strong southeasterly flow around the main monsoonal high-pressure axis that’s over eastern Utah and Western Colorado, it has been slowly pushing its westward trajectory in the last 72 hours. This is allowing for a significant embedded robust easterly inverted trough in combination with the peripheral might of Genevieve, which continues to strengthen as the strongest hurricane so far this year in the eastern Pacific region. Hurricane Genevieve is now a Category 3 storm. The tropical system is approximately 300 miles south of Cabo San Lucas; the axis symmetry is allowing for northward tropical moisture into Southern California, bringing tropical showers into San Diego to Santa Barbara today. In fact, there’s been some rain in Oceanside and downtown San Diego in the last three hours. This all contributes to the strengthening of El Nino very warm sea surface temperatures allowing tropical systems to get even stronger and more intense heat waves this Summer 2026 so far. #CAwx #Monsoon #Genevieve #ElNiño #heatwave

A very active weather pattern is setting up for next week, with multiple storm systems lined up to sweep across the US. It'll all begin with heavy rain slamming the West Coast this weekend into early next week, then the pattern shifts east as a parade of storms brings widespread rain, warm temperatures, and even the potential for severe weather. Because of the warmth, most of these will be rain makers, with only our brotheren in the western mountains being the only folks to get in on the snow. And although Severe Weather is certainty possible, the details still need to be ironed out. Nothing is guaranteed - but it’s definitely on the table in this setup. Get ready to get wet. 🌧️

SUMMER LOVIN’ BACK TO THE WINTER BLUES ❄️ Massive cold air transport is about to begin, with temperatures rapidly dropping across the Hudson Valley and Poconos. There will still be enough leftover moisture to flip rain showers to snow showers, with even a few brief bursts of heavy snow possible into the evening that could create some slushy coatings. This will not lead to meaningful accumulation or major travel issues on the roads because March sunangle is very strong and boundary layer (surface temps) will stay very warm. If this event came in at night this would have been a totally different type of situation but it's not. The overall pattern turns cool, not arctic, with temperatures rebounding back into the 40s and 50s over the next few days. The next shot at a more established cold pattern arrives next week. For now, I still do not see any major storms or classic March snowstorm threats. PIX11 News
