Earlier, the blending level of ethanol was 10%, and recently it was increased to 20%. ❓Has the government conducted any scientific studies or consulted research associations, such as the one in Pune, before increasing the blending percentage? 👉Another concern is that customers are not aware of ethanol blending in petrol, and retail shops are not displaying any details about it. It is reported that many retail shops are blending ethanol more than 20%, which may affect the mechanical side of vehicles. ❓I also have a question for the Petroleum and Natural Gas Minister. VIDEO | Delhi: At the E20 ethanol-petrol blended programme, experts Vartika Shukla says, "It is pertinent to note that since E20 ethanol has about 80% of gasoline which is fossil fuel. The main characteristic of the fuel is still fossil based which is gasoline. The specifications are well structured in terms of its compliance to BIS standard IS 17021 published in 2018. Again, these standards are a result of a dialogue between various scientific agencies, experts and extensive testing. And all ethanol-based gasoline, E20 gasoline which is spread across the country now in all retail outlets, 77,000 plus of them across the country, have uniformly adopted the specifications, which is compliant to meeting the, emission standards for BS6 as well as several other specifications which regulate the engine performance in terms of higher RON, compliant sulfur and water content which is, compliant to meeting the requirement of engine performance.This is a summary of the few points of the E20 program of the Government of India, which is now made us less reliant on 100% import of crude towards production of gasoline. The irony is hard to miss. The Congress-led UPA government had fixed the price for oil companies to procure ethanol for blending with petrol at ₹27 per litre in 2010, years before the BJP came to power. The decision was part of the Ethanol Blended Petrol programme. Ethanol blending was clearly a “dream” of the UPA. The problem? Like so many of their other “dreams”, they implemented very little. Now, after the Modi government has actually taken ethanol blending from a policy aspiration to a nationwide reality, they want to claim credit and blame the BJP for a policy they themselves initiated. You cannot have it both ways.
