The main characteristic of the fuel is still fossil based which is gasoline. The specifications are well structured in terms of its compliance to BIS standard IS 17021 published in 2018. The decision was part of the Ethanol Blended Petrol programme. Ethanol blending was clearly a “dream” of the UPA. The problem? Like so many of their other “dreams”, they implemented very little. Now, after the Modi government has actually taken ethanol blending from a policy aspiration to a nationwide reality, they want to claim credit and blame the BJP for a policy they themselves initiated.
