We added displacement to our terrain system this week. Using a height texture terrain materials can displace the geometry and height blend between materials. 🗻✨

AI bros know nothing. The geometry is this way because I used a technique called vertex painting where you can blend multiple materials together

we have biomes! using a palette but for terrain and trees. We have 4 fixed texture types: base, nature, light, and dark. Each biome defines the set of textures, and a type of trees. The terrain is painted with indexes into the palette. Thanks for coming to my ted talk

a long-time obsession of mine is turning semantics into tangible landscape that we can navigate. here’s a small start: turning any text into a 3d terrain with xy as embeddings and the height as similarity to user-defined topics:

Happy Monday! We just added raycast sensors to mjlab. They let a robot sample the scene with virtual rays, returning distances and surface geometry. Rays can use orthographic projection for terrain scanning or perspective projection for simulating a depth camera.

I converted the normals from the terrain to a texture in order to use it on the grass so that I can reflect the sun on it. The grass now blends better with the terrain and looks even fluffier! 👉

Increased the number of octaves of noise in the terrain gen function, and it's pretty mesmerizing just watching a cube smoothly blend with the terrain.

We built high-throughput materials labs in Menlo Park to create a loop between experiments and models. The labs generate fresh data, the models learn from it, and then help us decide what to try next. Using only 1,300 H200s, plus months of our experimental data, we mid-trained and RL’d an open-source model to surpass GPT-6 Astra on our analysis benchmark. We call it Neon. This is real footage from our lab. We’re focusing first on hard problems in materials science, including superconductors, magnets, and semiconductor materials. Read our blog posts below.

This is our 10th year y dropping corn. We have tried many auto steer options. Reichhart, yield360, and the John Deere feelers. Finally running auto path I can focus on boom height and overall less stress on the operator.. like a lot less! Best thing we have added in a long time

Fake Liquids! The stream is created by deforming and rotating a torus, using a world-space radial gradient to gradually pull it away from the nozzle. A pulsating procedural texture drives the displacement and generates the normals for added detail #gamedev #VFX #realtimeVFX

A SCRIPTER IS PLANTING ENTIRE ROBLOX FORESTS WITH CODE INSTEAD OF DRAGGING TREES ONE BY ONE Most builders still open Studio's terrain tool and hand-paint grass, then place every tree by clicking it into the world individually. He wrote a Luau script that reads the terrain height map first and scatters trees only where the slope and material actually make sense. Grass density shifts automatically too, thick near water, sparse on rock, without anyone painting a single texture by hand. He's running it through Studio's built-in Terrain Editor API, so the plugin handles the heavy terrain queries while his script decides what grows where. A biome that used to take a weekend of manual placement now generates in a single pass across the whole map. See how the placement logic actually works below👇
