Simplistic labels don’t solve complex threats. On CNN, I made clear that terrorism in Nigeria is not a religious conflict; it is a regional security threat. Nigeria’s focus remains the protection of innocent lives and the defeat of terrorism through coordinated action with partners who respect sovereignty and regional stability. This challenge goes beyond borders, and so must the response. Our approach is firm, collaborative and grounded in the understanding that security in Nigeria is inseparable from security across the wider region.

As Arabs, we need to understand that Israel and the West are not our oppressors or enemies. We, Arabs, are our own worst enemies. We, Arabs, are our greatest oppressors. We, Arabs, have killed and oppressed a million times more of our people than the West and Israel can ever do. It is not Israel that married off my mother when she was a child. It is my people who did. It is not the West or Israel that has been bombing Yemen for the past decade and killed 400,000. It is us, Arabs, who did it. It is not the Israel that implanted Islamic extremism in the East and the West. It is our mosques, it is the books we worship, it is the Imams we follow, it is what we learn and what we teach. It is not the West that forces us to treat women like commodities. It is our people. And most of all, it is not the West or Israel that doesn’t value Arab lives. It is us, Arabs, who do not value human life. If we do not admit to ourselves that WE are the problem, that WE are refusing to progress, and that WE need to change – then change will never happen, blood will keep flowing, and we will never know peace. How do we expect the world and the International Community to respect us, when we don’t respect ourselves?

No secret that I'm a devoted supporter of Saudi Vision 2030. But what moves me most isn't the megaprojects or the economic numbers - it's that the vision carries a genuine desire for stability, progress and prosperity for the entire region. Not just Saudi Arabia. The whole region! It's been a couple of years since I visited the Kingdom. I think about it often. The warmth of the people, the pride in where they're going - it stays with you. Saudi Arabia has a special place in my heart. Always will.

And the way that these things work is that the longer that it goes on, the popularity goes down, not up over time. And that is a calamity for the Republican party. But that's not what's important right now. I think that will be the building block for making sure that the relationship with the UAE continues strong and continues to serve the interest not just of both countries, but the region.
