We do have some of the Tesla Optimus robots doing simple tasks in the factory. By the end of this year I think they'll be doing more complex tasks, but still deployed in an industrial environment. And probably by the end of next year we'd be selling humanoid robots to the public. In this new COMPUTEX 2025 keynote Nvidia's CEO makes an important argument for why humanoid robots are likely the only universal type of robot that will work: "the reason for that is because technology needs scale. Most of the robotic systems we've had so far are too low volume and those low volume systems will never achieve the technology scale to get the flywheel going far enough, fast enough so that we are willing to dedictate enough technology into it to make it better".

Elon Musk: "We’re in the final stages of completion of Optimus 3, which is really going to be by far the most advanced robot in the world, nothing's even close. In fact, I haven’t even sent any demos of robots that are as good as Optimus 3, frankly. We’ll start production on Optimus 3 this summer, but very slow at first. And then probably reach high-volume production around summer next year. We’ll have Optimus 4 design complete by next year like, we will try to release a new robot design every year, an improved robot design every year."

$SPY I’m bearish, but let’s clear something up low volume means nothing on its own. The market needs to break out of this downtrend to form a lower high that doesn’t make me bullish. And low volume during a rally isn’t a signal by itself. Most rallies off pullbacks or bottoms come on lower volume. Even if we dump tomorrow, that doesn’t change the fact that low volume historically means nothing

Largest final assembly of shipping in Northern China. Huge welding robots now reduced # of workers by half while doubling the workload. Delivery time for special welding wire was shortened from 6 months to 7 after switching to domestic supplier + significantly cheaper. Now, a new ship launches every 30 days. Both h/w & s/w continue to improve. The shipyards continue to improve in everything to improve production flow & replacing w/ domestic suppliers (including software). All of this has not only cut cost & increased supply line security, but also sped up delivery time & iteration time.

In 2021, improved precision and the ability to work 24/7 allow automated railway construction machines to lay 2 km of track a day. Not long after, the robots expanded their capabilities beyond installing rails. Welding, painting and inspection work can now be carried out by robots. Automated equipment also digs tunnels and pours concrete, among other tasks

Elon just dropped a MAJOR nugget on how Tesla is going to be training Optimus to do real world tasks. They are building an Optimus Academy, which is a large scale, dedicated real-world training facility to accelerate the development of Optimus. The Academy will deploy thousands of Optimus units, potentially 10,000 to 30,000 robots, in a controlled realistic environment where they perform self-play, experiment with tasks, iterate on behaviors, and continuously generate training data through trial and error. The Tesla bots will also run millions of simulations in Tesla’s high-fidelity physics-accurate engine, allowing Optimus to close the “sim-to-real gap” by using these real-world observations to refine and validate the simulations! “You’re actually highlighting an important limitation and difference from cars. We’ll soon have 10 million cars on the road. It’s hard to duplicate that massive training flywheel. For the robot, what we’re going to need to do is build a lot of robots and put them in kind of an Optimus Academy so they can do self-play in reality. We’re actually building that out. We can have at least 10,000 Optimus robots, maybe 20-30,000, that are doing self-play and testing different tasks. Tesla has quite a good reality generator, a physics-accurate reality generator, that we made for the cars. We’ll do the same thing for the robots. We actually have done that for the robots.
