White Sox rookie Jacob Gonzalez threw home when the runner stayed put at third and there was no force out at the plate

No shit jomboy, high chopper to right side of infield and winning run on third base. Clearly thought the winning runner was taking off for the plate

@TalkinBaseball_ Happens far too frequently. Hard to get mad at the kid tho, 1B is like his 5th position

@TalkinBaseball_ Every first baseball in the world is doing what he did, high chopper with the winning run at third

Winning run on 3rd by the way.

Hard to fault him. 0 outs, winning run on 3rd, IF in. Slow hit, high chopper that 1B had to go up in the air for. Kind of a bang bang play. What would you have said if he turned around to take the 2 steps needed back to the bag & let the winning run score in the bottom of 10th?

@TalkinBaseball_ The proper play was for him to run at the batter while keeping an eye on the runner at third.

@TalkinBaseball_ With how long it took that ball to get to him, he has to assume the runner is going. He made the smart play in the moment.

The guy isn’t a natural 1st baseman and had to jump for the ball, this wasn’t a terrible play with the winning run on 3rd and no outs

He made a calculated decision, he didn’t know if the runner was going on contact. Over blown, it’s the bottom of the 10th. If he doesn’t throw, and the runner left in contact he still would’ve been posted by Jomboy

Runner on 3rd no outs. They were gonna lose anyways

All he has to do was touch 1st base and the runner would’ve been out

@TalkinBaseball_ Just 0 context was given in this post, winning run was on third.

@TalkinBaseball_ At first I thought he stood on First Base which would have been a great play but he was no where near it lmao

There’s nothing wrong with what he did in this moment

My daughter’s 12U softball team does that on the regular :)

When I press the wrong button on the show

So how is this bad? Where did he need to throw it everybody was on base already

Did he even look to see if runner from 3rd was going? Doesn't appear so. Looks like he just immediately threw home. He could have checked the runner, then stepped on 1st for the out.

Oh my I did not see this @theschfinkter 😂

Give the kid some credit. Pretty sure the coaches will tell him to check the runner at 3B, touch your bag, and maybe try DP 😂

He’s not a first baseman and thought the contract play was on.

@TalkinBaseball_ Pressed X instead of triangle 😂😂

Internet baseball experts considering he would have to turn and fire an accurate throw to second for a double play and risk the runner breaking home since there is no outs. What do you think the proper play would be. It’s sure not blaming him for that.

really isn’t that bad of a play considering the circumstances

I watched this, and it was funny to hear the announcer say his inexperience I’m sorry, he’s a fucking pro and have been playing first base for about 15 years I coach high school and we practice this all the time

The first angle made it look like he was about to make a triple play, but he didn’t even get one

Well it seems regardless of that decision or not they were gonna lose, baseball 🤷♂️🤷♂️

Execution over everything

rookie move. you got a whole 90 feet to work with and just… didn’t

TYPICAL SOX PLAYER ABSOLUTE MORON

Blame the right fielder. No need to dive for that ball. Take it off one hop and get the force at home.

that’s a rookie mistake you only make once - did he at least get the out

If they put this moron at 1st base again I’m gonna puke. He has made 3 major mistakes at 1B that you don’t even see in little league. He’s a very dumb baseball player.

This is tough. In my league, I'm yelling at him from 3rd base either "2nd base" or "1st base" when I see R3 staying. But in the majors with the loud crowd...no idea if he could hear me. In that situation, I can understand why he did not hesitate to check where R3 was...
